Default Living with Friends A Bad Idea?

After highschool, a friend of mine and I want to get an apartment together up in NYC. She suggested that we try staying together for long periods of time to see whether or not it works out, but I don't know. I think as a general rule you just shouldn't live with your friends. What do you guys think? I should also mention that we are pretty much the complete opposite of each other.

If you are going to live together I would suggest making a list of ground rules and see if you agree before sharing a place.

Good luck

as you said that you both are pretty much opposite to each other,so it's sound's clear that you can't live to gether, but if she is your friend you should experience staying with her,and check out the compatibility between you and her,i suggest you to bought an appartment and stay together for few months

When I was in College a friend and I got an apartment together and it got old pretty fast. We started to get on each other nerves. But every situation is different. Good Luck

Thats what I'm afraid of. She's a morning person, overly happy at 6am, kinda neat freak, nice. I'm a night owl, automatically ready to strangle whos up at 6am, sloppy and I can get sarcastic. The sarcastic nice thing isn't a big issue and we did agree to make sure that when the other is asleep to make sure to not disturb them and I could be a little more organized.

I wouldn't care so much if we were going to be staying in Ohio where we could just go and stay with other friends or with family when we start to bother each other, but up in NYC, neither of us could really go anywhere.

I can surely understand wanting to be with someone you know to act as a buffer against the new world ahead of you, but honestly...it sounds like something that could potentially ruin a friendship, too.

Just about every case of friends living together that I can think of has ended that way. I'm sure there are exceptions, and maybe yours would be one.

Living with someone is a really, really difficult thing, I think. Meshing well with someone when you both have your own space is one thing, but sharing that space is something else.

Whatever happens, good luck!

One thing about living with your friends. You kinda have an idea what you are in for if you know them well. I have lived with friends and never had any problems. We totally respected each others space, nobody ever messed with anyone's belongings. I would rather live with friends than with strangers.
