I personally liked Andy Rivers, the WJM sportscaster played by John Gabriel, who dated Mary for a few episodes. He may have stuck around had John Gabriel not relocated to NYC in 1975 to star in the then-brand new ABC soap opera, Ryan's Hope. But it was good for Mr. Gabriel, who played Dr. Seneca Beaulac for over a decade and garnered an Emmy nomination in the process. His daughter, Andrea, is now an actress in her own right - best known as Nadia on Lost.

Interesting, was he supposed to be a regular on the show?

I didn't even know that was why he disappeared, LOL! Thanks for that info, Monika. It's a shame he wasn't given more to do, b/c it seemed like he was just "there" to be Mary's date for the Teddy Awards every year. I wonder why she never had a boyfriend to go w/ her? LOL

Yup!! John Gabriel played the role of Dr. Seneca Beaulac from 1975-85, and again from 1988-89 (the soap's final weeks). He earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1980 (and lost to the late Douglass Watson of Another World). Here are some pics of him from his Ryan's Hope days, and the last pic is of Mr. Gabriel and his wife Sandy, who are still married after almost 43 years:
