Exclamation IT'S OFFICIAL!!! CBS Renews 'How I Met Your Mother' For 2 More Seasons!!!

Be prepared to not find out who the mother of Ted's kids is for another 2 years. Word is CBS and How I Met Your Mother producer 20th Century Fox Television have closed a deal to pick up the relationship comedy from Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for 2 additional seasons, through May 2013. This is the earliest HIMYM has been renewed as far as I can remember; usually the underrated series gets the nod just before CBS' annual upfront.

With the show continuing to grow in its sixth season and the future of CBS comedy tentpole Two and a Half Men uncertain, I hear 20th TV got nice coin for HIMYM, almost doubling its current license fee to about $3.5 million an episode.

HIMYM started off as a cult favorite with great online following but soft ratings. Then something happened in the spring of 2008, right after the show came back from the writers strike. Fueled by a well cast and promoted guest appearance by Brittney Spears, HIMYM took off in the ratings and never looked back.

That's ashame. Yes, season 5 was by far the worst season of the series, and many episode will remain nameless (*cough cough* Slapsgiving 2 *cough cough*), but season 6 has been fantastic at moving these characters along in their lives. It's right behind seasons 1 and 2 for me! You should think about catching up!

Default ...and I believe I know CBS' ulterior motive in renewing it...

...it's quite possible they might {might, mind you} move it up to 9pm(et) next fall, replacing "TWO AND A HALF MEN", using the series as a new "keystone" for the network's Monday night schedule. It would be very easy to "shuffle", say, "MAD LOVE" to 8pm, followed by a "wild card" series- new or returning ["MIKE & MOLLY"?]- at 8:30, followed by "HOW I MET", then possibly another new series at 9:30. Of course, if the deal the network has with Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros. Television prohibits the scheduling of any series other than their own at 9pm, I could be wrong! {If I were a CBS executive, that wouldn't matter, as I'd probably earn a bonus for my quick thinking, anyway! }
