According to perfectstrangers.tv, "Balki-isms" are mangled expressions that Balki comes out with because he's not a native English speaker. So I couldn't use that for what I'm talking about here.
I'm using "Bartokomoments" to mean all the times when Balki shows kindness toward, or trust in, someone whom Larry or others distrusts or sees as a bad guy. And either: 1.) Balki's trust is justified - the other person's intentions are good: Carl Lewis in the one where he appears, and Vince Lucas in "Pen Pal," after he's out of prison. 2.) Larry is right, and the person has some scheme in mind or his being mean, but Balki's kindness turns them around: Cousin Bartok in "Because They're Cousins" Sam Gorpley in "Gift of the Mypiot." (and everyone else who hates Sam has their attitude changed, too.) Vince Lucas probably qualifies here, too, since we learn Balki has been writing to him while in prison and may have been a factor in his turning around. What other ones can you think of? And sometimes, Larry himself does the right thing because of Balki. |
