Exclamation After 50 Years, KFC Gets Rid Of Their "Finger Lickin Good" Slogan

For 50 years, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has attracted customers with its 'finger lickin' good' punch line, but the company has decided to ditch the slogan for a healthier one now.

The catchphrase originated by accident in the 1950s when franchisee David Harman was shown eating chicken and licking his fingers in the background of an American TV commercial.

A viewer phoned up to complain about the incident and spoke to manager Ken Harbough, who replied, "Well it's finger lickin' good."

The re-branding exercise will coincide with the introduction of healthier frying oils and meals cooked on a griddle instead of in a frier. There are also plans to show the calorie content of all items on KFC's menus from September.

""Finger lickin' good" is... very food-centric. "So Good" is still about the food, but it also allows us to more effectively communicate the breadth of different things about the brand, such as our people," the Daily Mail quoted KFC's Martin Shuker as saying.

The chain has been working closely with The Food Network as a partner in the Department of Health's 'Responsibility Deal,' which aims to give customers greater choice.

If KFC wants healthier chickens...they should have organic farms where chickens run free and get natural foods, rather than Pamela Lee getting in our faces with her giant boobs and no brain telling us that KFC is Finger-Lickin Bad!

agreed. if a person wants to be a vegeterian, that's their business. But don't make everybody go veggie simply because it's against YOUR views!

Ugh, just the thought of KFC makes me sick. The only time I ever went there on a regular basis was back in 1987-88 when I was in college. They had these sandwiches called Chicken Littles and they were just a flat piece of fried chicken with mayo on a biscuit. I think they were pretty cheap, but OMG, I was so addicted to those! But I will never eat at KFC now... Makes my stomach churn!

I never did like their fried chicken - too greasy and too bland. Their grilled chicken, however, is really good. If I want fried chicken, I'll go to Popeye's anytime!

I enjoy change like this, myself. After 50 years, IMO, it's time for a little change, regardless.

If people want healthy food, they don't go to fast food places. Changing a slogan isn't going to change that. It's all about being PC.
