That ON THE AIR retrospective was great. Glad a friend of mine recorded the whole thing back in the early VHS days.

...unfortunately, my grandfather died on March 26, 1978. While we were in mourning, our family's TV set was off the entire week "ON THE AIR" was broadcast. So I'm grateful to see bits and pieces (including the "Spin-off Blues" segment noted here) on YouTube, and makes me feel just as sad about missing my grandfather and the complete version of "ON THE AIR".

for those who don't know what they're talking about, "ON THE AIR" was a special that aired on CBS back in 1978. It was a week-long show to celebrat the networks anniversary or something. Some of the episodes were one hour and some were 2 hours. I remember; they did it after NBC did a special that was like 4 hours long to celebrate their anniversary; it was called "NBC: THE FIRST 50 YEARS" and was a big hit in the ratings. And then, ABC also did one to celebrate their anniversary. I remember that one aired on a Sunday night and was, I think, 2 hours.
I wish all 3 of these would get a DVD release; but with all the TV clips that they showed I imagine the clearance costs would be HUGE!! |

I saw all seven nights of CBS: On The Air. That was so cool.
