Movie Reviews: Drive Angry 3D
In his review of Drive Angry 3D, Tom Maurstad in the Dallas Morning News wrote that it is “so wantonly ridiculous, so aggressively stupid, it demands you make fun of it.” That’s just what most critics have done, including Maurstad himself, who wrote, rather mildly: “Take the title of this wheels-off action movie as a prediction since angry is probably how you’re going to feel driving home from the theater.” Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times goes at it this way: “Here is an exercise in deliberate vulgarity, gross excess, and the pornography of violence, not to forget garden variety pornography. You get your money’s worth.” (He also allows that “it is well made.”) A.O. Scott in the New York Times roasts star Nicolas Cage, whose acting style, he suggests, seems “to require not an extra dimension, but rather an entire parallel universe.” He notes that Cage’s character is named John Milton, “a sop to the English literature grad students who are sure to flock to this movie.” The Boston Globe‘s Wesley Morris gives Cage this left-handed compliment: “He continues to boldly go where few actors willingly do: the Dumpster.” And Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune actually appears to be giving the movie a positive review — but it’s all probably tongue-in-cheek: “As I plan on telling my son when he starts driving lessons,” he writes, “‘If you’re going to drive angry, you may as well drive angry in 3D.’ This explains why I rather liked the energetic, salacious, trashy trash that is Drive Angry in, yes, 3D.” -IMDB News |

^ I did see it. Yeah, it was a flop so it didn't have a long run in the theaters.
It was alright. I don't really know what the purpose was for this to be in 3D though. To me the star of the movie was William Fichtner. |
