Did sons Mike,Robbie and Chip and widowed father Steve ever get cold feet(nervous) about marrying?Or was it love at first sight?

haven't seen the show in YEARS but I think Steve did.

Robbie and Katie had a brief spat and decided to call off their plans of having a wedding. When Katie's grandmother (played by Kathryn Givney) found out she intervened -- asking Katie if she loved him, etc. and getting them to realize they did want to be wed. Rob had almost immediately started to envision Kate in a wedding gown/veil when they first met -- it really was love at first sight, and she was very into Rob as well.

Steve and Barbara also decided not to get married after leaning heavily that way. But they got back together and went on. When they had met they hit things off perfectly, talking for hours and enjoying each others' company. Steve was a little concerned early on about the reactions of Charley, Chip, and Ernie about his bringing a new wife (and her young daughter Dodie) into the household, but aside from he and Barbara briefly cutting off of the relationship, everything later went very well. In their premarital relationship, Barbara's mother "Mrs. Vincent" (Eleanor Audley) also did a little bit of matchmaking to help things along and keep Steve in the picture.

I might add that Rob & Kate and the triplets moved to a nearby apartment building before Steve even met Barbara, so it was sort of convenient that space was made in the Douglas home before Steve had any marriage prospects whatsoever...!

I haven't seen Chip and Polly's eps in a long time, but their main problem was that Polly's dad (played by Norm Alden) was against a marriage -- and they eloped. Alden was effective as Mr. Williams and he had some great scenes with MacMurray regarding Polly & Chip. Those eps also had the lovely Doris Singleton as Mrs. Williams, playing a more reasonable character.

These were all pretty fast courtships overall -- there was a lot of love going on, and none of the unions came as much of a surprise. The hesitations by Rob and Steve added drama, as did Mr. Williams, but the weddings seemed to be pretty much sure bets.
