I use easy screen capture 2, I think it's free for 30 days then after that they put a stamp in the corner your captures and you have to pay a registration fee of $35 to have it removed but there's a way around it. I've had it on my PC for over two years and use it for many of the captures I post here.

good! But that doesn't answer my question: how do you do it?

Is it hard? Do you have to connect a DVD player to your computer; or what?

It's actually very easy.

Click easy screen capture to open the program

Click the option you want (full screen, active window, window object or region)

I always use capture region, all you do is pause the dvd on the image you want and drag the box around the image and left click once to capture it.

There's a simple trick to avoiding the $35 fee once your trial period ends. All you have to do is when you take a capture is to allow about 2-3 inches of extra space above the image. The stamp will still appear but in that area and not on the actual image you intended to capture

Here's an example using the SO logo:





The first capture is blocked by the stamp but by allowing extra room with the second capture, the logo isn't obstructed. From this point all you have to do is upload the image to photobucket, imageshack or any other image hosting site and crop the photo to remove the stamp.



I'm also not sure about connecting a dvd player to your PC, mine has a dvd drive so I've never tried that

As long as you have a DVD drive you shouldn't have to connect a DVD player(to hook up you're DVD player you would need something like a video capture card)

I use VLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It's free and you won't have any stamps on your capture.

Basically, put the DVD in your drive. Click to open VLC, click MEDIA, then scroll down and click OPEN DISC, make sure the disc device is your DVD drive, then click PLAY. When you get to the scene you want a screenshot of you can either click VIDEO, then click on SNAPSHOT, or just press the keys SHIFT and S together, it will then save the snapshot to your hard drive.

VLC media player is excellent, I use it as well. We used to be able to get screen caps with some early versions of Windows Media player, but they took that feature out some time ago, and someone pointed me to VLC media player, which I've used ever since.

I just play the DVD on my computer, pause at the scene I want, and use the Windows Snipping Tool to capture the picture. Probably not the most high-tech way to get screen caps, but it is free, easy, and works well for me. In fact, my avatar was done this way from an old Dobie Gillis reunion show.

how can I tell if I have a DVD drive? Do I just put a DVD in the drive and if it plays then I have a DVD drive?

If you go on Start-Computer it should say you have DVD drive. Or you can try to insert a DVD and see if it plays.
