Default IDEA: How bout Life Goes On, American Dreams & others for GMC?

Oh right it is time to unite! It really looks like Gospel Music Channel has changed their programming dramatically (so has Reelz channel, from movie talk shows, BTW E!'s original theme when it was called "Movietime" to mainly sitcoms, but I digress) anyway this post is about GMC, now I admit I never watched it and it continues its' original gospel theme on sundays only....The programming folks at GMC have pulled a Viacom and totally changed their vision.......They run Doc, Dr. Quinn, Sister, Sister, 227, Highway To Heaven, Promised Land, & the reliable can't get rid of Sue Thomas F.B.Eye....they pretty much have turned into a combination of the old ION and Hallmark Channel. It's a gentle program schedule with some religious overtones, but they also run movies like tonight 2/18/11 they will be running Eddie Murphys' "The Nutty Professor"...what! On something called Gospel Music Channel?....lol......

What always amazes me (not really) is that there are also so many "ignored classics" in the same tradition......btw.....my suggestion also goes to AmericanLife TV, but they seem to be really confused at the moment. Flipper & a Canadian Soap "Beachcombers" and endless unknown talk shows....huh?

I AM SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOP. someone bring back ABC's "Life Goes On" starring Kelly Martin, Chris Burke, & Patti Lapone...Warner gave us one season on DVD and abandoned it..and while you're at it....How about the the 3 season much beloved "American Dreams" which NBC really gave support, also a one season DVD release but then the series was never seen again! BTW...For you Brittany Snow fans, support her on the brillant "Harry's Law" Monday nights @10PM on NBC.

Two exceptional quality shows that have faded into the mist of missing TV! They need to return!

There are few things I would love more than American Dreams back on TV... but seasons 2 & 3 on DVD is one of those few things. What a great and underrated show. Also, I'm in love with Brittany Snow.

i agree about her being underused she mostly just sits around and nods her head and says cute things every 10 minutes or so most of wich have nothing to do with the story

Life Goes On definitely needs to be on TV again. What a great show it was. GMC would be a perfect fit, they even aired Kellie Martin's other series, Christy. Warner Home Video will not release the remaining seasons it seems (hopefully Warner Archive does!). I didn't watch American Dreams, but I like Brittany Snow. She needs her own series that she can star in like she has done in movies.

I liked Life Goes On and American Dreams. But I don't see GMC airing Life Goes On because some of the material wouldn't fit with their mission statement. I can maybe see American Dreams being on GMC.

I love when we all agree about something in a thread....and I think it shows at least we all have a "TV Crush" on the lovely Miss Snow....lol.....I plugged "Harry's Law" in the post re: this idea...even though it is doing very well for NBC, so it doesn't need my plug.....btw more programming executives read these posts than you would think.....hint, hint....

I think you meant to write "wouldn't fit their mission statement" and I am guessing you mean the later season dealing with the Jesse character (Chad Lowe) having HIV, etc.....I considered that before I made the suggestion, but I would hope in the year 2011, GMC would realize HIV isn't exclusive to any religion, race, etc....the storyline was handled very maturely and was very educational during a time when HIV was headline news..plus the character didn't become HIV positive due to sex or drugs, I think it was through a blood transfusion..as for GMC's "mission statement"....does it include all the non-gospel programming including running Eddie Murphys' "The Nutty Professor"? I think a mature over 20 year old series dealing with the lead character having downs syndrome and dealing with other real life issues so professionally should have a place that airs responsible programming. I would hope Gospel "Music" Channel viewers could handle it. I appreciate your and all thoughts though.....thanks for the posting!

I meant to write that. I just edited my other post. I have noticed that GMC does air non-religious or non-gospel programming, but I really don't see them airing Life Goes on. Life Goes On was a very good show and it was sort of ahead of it's time. The last time I remember seeing it on TV was back in 1996 or 1997. There was a cable channel that aired reruns for awhile.

I believe the last regular national exposure "Life Goes On" had was it was part of the intial PAX group of stations line-up, lead by Bud Lowl Paxson, (BTW...he was/is a very religious man) that soon was a mess...now known as ION.....TV Land also ran two episodes during their Warner Brothers 50th Anniversary special weekend. It's first national exposure after cancellation was The Family Channel, now known as ABC Family, they originally were CBN.

I remember Life Goes On on The Family Channel. On Life Goes On, Jesse got AIDS from a one night stand.

Very surprised I did not remember that at all, come to think about it, if The "Family" Channel" could run the subject matter all those years ago right after being named CBN (Christian Broadcast Network), then on PAX run by a very conservative man, than certainly over 20 years later I would think Gospel Music Channel shouldn't be afraid to air such an issue, even with a disclaimer. Plus during its entire run "Life Goes On" ran on ABC in the 7PM early hour.

Anyway it was just a suggestion because you never know who is reading, Life Goes On, American Dreams, Family, Eight Is Enough, Party Of Five, Our House & countless others are all shows with many years of no national exposure & could be airing in my opinion on GMC, AmericanLifeTV, or Reelz Channel since those channels have all strayed from their original "mission statements".

Our House is airing Mondays through Fridays on the Inspiration Channel. I the shows you mentioned were good shows that could be airing right now on cable.

I agree. Even though Im fairly new on the board, one of the things I believe in is that if your going to call yourself a channel, whether its broadcast or cable, you have to have SHOWS on your channel. Now, there are shows on GMC but I say the more the marrier. I mean you could never have too many shows and the shows expands your channel.
