Ever bump an old thread that you thought was gone? Ever bump one that was bad or mediocre?
I just want to know because I see this many times.... |

I never bump a thread old or recent unless I have something to ad to it. I've seen threads that have gotten no replies bumped several times in a week for the sole purpose of making sure it gets to the top of the pile and to possibly generate a few responses. I personally have no issue if anyone doesn't reply to my threads but to keep bumping a thread over and over in the hopes that someone will reply is just overkill.

I will occassionally bump something I last posted in after 3-4 months maybe once or twice. Never more than that. I seldom bump very old threads (like those over 1-2 yrs old) -but if the topic catches my eye I will. I did this once as a newbie, and a troll (no longer at SO) got on my case for it.

I think it depends on what the topic is about. If there's something I want to say about something, and there's already a topic about it, I could bump it, cause then I don't need to make a new thread.

I have bumped a few threads. But I only bump a thread if I have what I consider a valid reason for doing so. And just hoping more people will post on it is not a valid reason.

Bumping up very old threads is silly and TJ doesn't like it, if I'm remembering correctly. I think it's funny when someone makes a thread about something going on in their lives, and they keep bumping it up constantly. They reply to every single person who makes a post on their thread. The thread ends up being there for a long time. It's just a matter of personal preference I guess. I don't post about many deaths or personal issues. My cousin died from Lou Gehrig's Disease just six months after her sister died after a failed liver transplant. Their mother suffered a massive stroke over this and died. She was my Dad's sister. I've lost two aunts, an uncle and another cousin in the last five years.
My husband's mother died two week's ago, at the age of 89. It's been hard helping him cope with it. Sometimes I make a thread about something in my life, such as the fire in my condo building two months ago. We've been in renovation hell. Some people would have made that a running thread, but I don't I made a thread a couple of years ago when my 17-year old cat died, but I never bumped it up to say that it was tearing me up inside, and was it ever. Last Fall, I was scammed online . So many awful things. My parents and sister dying since I signed up. I think most people would be very surprised to know how much pain I deal with on a daily basis or how worried I am about my husband's health. He's almost 18 years older than me. I guess I just vented, lol. Anyway, like I stated that it's a matter of personal preference. I tend to hold a lot inside. |
