Cool Update: First Still Released from "The Walking Dead" Video Game

"Walking Dead" Video Game Series on the Way
Source: Shock Till You Drop
February 18, 2011

When it rains it pours. For years, readers of "The Walking Dead" waited for some sort of screen adaptation to get off of the ground.

Well, they got their television series, and now they're getting a video game.

Telltale Games is working with creator Robert Kirkman to bring a video game series to life based on the title.

"The folks at Telltale Games are a great choice for bringing 'The Walking Dead' to life as interactive entertainment," says Kirkman.

"They care as much as I do about the story and characters while seamlessly weaving that into the games they build. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am ecstatic to work with the same people putting out the coolest 'Jurassic Park' game ever."

Cool I like this show. If it comes out on PC or Wii I'd buy it. But PC would give you more versitility. So hopefully they'll release it on that platform.

As of now the platforms that the game/s will be released on has not been made yet.

We can assume it will be on PC since the agreement between Robert Kirkman and Telltale Games covers the PC; as well as consoles, social media, and mobile devices.

Kirkman Talks "The Walking Dead" Video Game!
by Carl Lyon,
March 14, 2011

After the official announcement from Telltale Games, details on the upcoming "The Walking Dead" video game have been literally nonexistent.

However, a press release from comic and TV series creator Robert Kirkman has finally changed that, offering up a few delectable morsels to whet our appetites!

The first interesting bit, gleaned from our pals at G4, is that the game will follow the canon of the comic book series rather than the extended version of events offered by the TV series.

The other bit, straight from the horse's mouth, is that we won't just be playing as Rick Grimes, but that players will jump into the shoes of many characters over the course of the game's multiple episodes.

"You'll be playing as characters from The Walking Dead for sure," Kirkman explained, "and different levels you'll play as different people, so we'll see."

"The Walking Dead" will be released on "multiple platforms" in Fall 2011, just in time for Season 2.

Robert Kirkman Talks "The Walking Dead" Video Game
Posted by Allan Dart
Apr 06, 2011

In addition to the comic and TV series, a video game is currently being developed.

“I just had a meeting with them yesterday,” Kirkman notes.

I’m not writing the video game myself just because I don’t have time. I can say that I picked Frank Darabont for the show and I picked Telltale Games because they are very familiar with the comic book and they know what makes the comic book good and what makes the comic book as opposed to just, you know, zombies running around and cutting people’s heads off and stuff.

If you want to buy a game where you run around and kill zombies with an Uzi—that game exists and there are more of those games coming out. They are fun games and everybody likes them, but we are not going to try and compete with those games. We are going to try to do something a little different that is a little more true to 'The Walking Dead'.

E3: "Walking Dead" Video Game Concept Art
Source: Game Informer
June 9, 2011

Tellltale was on hand at E3 this week to show off a couple of titles, including their upcoming game based on Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead".

Game Informer scored a piece of concept art and also learned that the game will be culled from the pages of the comic, but introduce a new character: Lee, a convict whose escort vehicle was destroyed during a zombie attack.

He meets a young girl, Clementine, on his journey of survival. Telltale plans to rope in a few familiar characters and locations.

"The Walking Dead" will be made available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and iPad this winter.

Comic-Con 2011: Walking Dead Game Promo Art
Source: Shock Till You Drop
July 21, 2011

Here's a look at some artwork on display at Comic-Con for Telltale's forthcoming video game based on "The Walking Dead".

The game will be culled from the pages of the comic, but introduce a new character: Lee, a convict whose escort vehicle was destroyed during a zombie attack. He meets a young girl, Clementine, on his journey of survival.

Telltale plans to rope in a few familiar "WD" characters and locations.

First "Walking Dead" Game Screenshot
by Carl Lyon
July 26, 2011

MTV Multiplayer released the screenshot, featuring the game's new protagonists Lee and Clementine, and the art style on display is absolutely stunning.

Bless Telltale for basically telling photorealism to go kick rocks and opting instead for a hand-drawn style that captures the grittiness of the long-running comic series (are those hand-drawn textures?) while still offering up a slew of rich colors to appeal to the mainstream majority.
