OK--what is the possible farthest you can see these two going romantically?

Physically they make a good match. However, I could see Ginger becoming easily frustrated with their relationship because the Professor would be engrossed in one of his scientific experiments just when Ginger was in a romantic mood.

I called 'married' on this one, maybe with one kiddo. Probably not until after they are rescued, though, unless Ginger finally made a serious, all-out move. The Professor would need something drastic - like finding out how much he misses her - to break through his complacency and fear and act on his feelings.

I agree with littlesoprano. She'd catch him eventually.

You do bring up a good point. Though the Professor will probably never be a romantic, I think he would be much more romantically inclined if he felt more sure of himself in that arena. (He certainly seems to be enjoying himself during his scene in "Castaway Pictures Presents"!) Ginger would probably be more than happy to give him some more kissing lessons. She could even put a scientific spin on it.Professor: I understand it all now! It's just a matter of velocity in relation to complementary angles! |

I know what Schwartz's plan was but if I go just by the show itself, I will bet my quarter on a serious monogamous relationship. I don't I know that it would last finally. I definitely get the interest vibe between them and the sense that there could be an exclusive interest rather than just something "casual," but I don't get the "love" vibe to the degree I get with Gilligan and Maryann. I think the Professor and Ginger could be seriously involved, maybe not make it due to their differences and be able to go on and live without each other. Do you think that is also true about Gilligan and Maryann? I'm interested in your thoughts.

I do think that there is a "love vibe" between the two in the series, beyond just attraction. The scene that really shows this is in "X Marks the Spot," where they tell each other about their regrets and insecurities. This is a big deal for two characters who are very guarded about showing their flaws. They also genuinely enjoy one another's company and have a very companionable friendship, especially shown in scenes where Ginger assists the Professor. For the long run, I think it could work if they each learned to give a little. The Professor would need to realize that Ginger needs romance and attention. Ginger would have to know that she couldn't expect him to participate in the Hollywood scene. Actually, a marriage between them could be ideal. It's the marriages that you *don't* hear about in Hollywood - when stars are married to people in other professions - that last. |

And G/P are so adorable together, they would have made it work somehow. There was definitely chemistry there, and not just in his test tubes. (whomp whomp) Besides, season one Proffy was smooth, compared to colour eps Proffy, who suddenly didn't know how to kiss. Huh? He was smooching her quite happily in Big Man On A Little Stick. ("Lucky Pierre!" Don't google it at work, folks.)Proffy and Ginger, Gilligan and Mary Ann. I wish the canon couples had married and had those kids. As Bob Denver said in his book, "let Gilligan's son fall in the lagoon for a change." |

Why would she do that? |

From what I remember, there was some ground work layed for Ginger and Professor to begin a relationship. In the episode X Marks The Spot, the two of them have a pretty nice heart to heart where Ginger questions her career choice and the Professor gives her moral support. In Seer Gilligan, The Professor obviously has Ginger (or at least her dimensions) on his mind. Also, there were scattered scenes where Ginger would assist the Professor with his experiments and in once scene she obviously make him a bit nervous. Seems very plausible.

Ginger definitely had a soft spot for the Professor. You could tell that when she flirted with him, it was markedly different to when she launched herself at Gilligan. However, there were hints at Ginger/Skipper too. She loved the big guy, and if things hadn't worked out between her and The Prof, I think she may have given Skippy a chance.
Has that pairing been discussed yet? |
