Post [Update] Strange Letter

Today in the mail I received a letter from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. This is legit. I followed up on it.

February 15, 2011

Jenny (last name),
I am U.S. Postal Inspector Robert F. I am domiciled in Houston, Texas. As a federal law enforcement officer, I conduct investigations concerning Mail Theft, Mail Fraud and Identity Theft.

On September 24, 2010 the U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted a search warrant at the residence of H. Pejouhesh in Houston, Texas. During the search of his personal vehicle, we found two Matter for the Blind items that had been mailed from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (address) to Jenny (last name) (address) on or about July 7, 2008. I contacted the postal station and records indicate that you moved from that address to (current address) The mail items are housed in green plastic cases. The suspect is currently housed in federal prison.

You are a victim in this case.

I need to speak with about these mailed items so that we can return them to the Texas State Library and clear their inventory and your account with them.

My contact information is as follows:
Address:
Telephone :

Sincerely,
Robert F.
Postal Inspector

Please call me as soon as possible to discuss this matter.

Did he give his last name, leave a phone number? This is too nuts. I'll call you later, hopefully. Please don't do ANYTHING, until we talk.

Be VERY careful what you tell him. Talk to your mother first. She's very smart. She'll know what to do. Remember how I got scammed last year.

Well from what I can find Robert Fisher is a real U.S. Postal Inspector. Still be careful of what, if any info you give out.

Are you a patron of the Texas Talking Book Program? It sounds like someone stole your mail and the postal inspector is trying to either give it (the talking books) back to you or return it to the library (so the books can be removed from your account). The green talking book cases are pretty bulky so maybe the crook thought he was stealing something valuable or thought he could play the tapes.

You probably won't have to say much, Jenny, sounds to me like it's just so you can confirm some facts so they can prosecute this guy.

Do you have to travel a long ways to be in court? I'd hate to have to drive a long ways for something like that, and I hope you can secure transportation.

Wow.. Next week the trail was going to start? Damn, that's fast. I would have thought it'd take at least 6 months to get it to trial.

EDIT: Oh.. this was first posted in February. Never mind.

That's one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard! Sorry you're going through all this. Crazy.
