I was just curious about your opinions on this question: Why do you think the character "Jo" has created such a huge fan base and has influenced people's lives and basically why she was such a popular character on the show? I'm just asking this question cause no offense... i see about a million people's names that are like Jo Rox or Jo Polniaczek rox or something like that. I'm such a huge Nancy McKeon fan myself... im just bored and wondered what your thoughts were on this...

She has touched so many lives, I'm one of them. Well, I'll tell you the reason I like Jo, but I'm not sure I can speak for all her other fans because everyone has their different reasons.
The first thing that caught my eye about Jo was her wittiness (if that's a word). She could give everyone a comeback no matter who they were. She had a great sense of humor. She didn't follow the crowd. She was her own person and I admired that. She stuck to her morals and values despite what others thought. She was a hard worker and worked for what she believed in. She had a tough exterior, but once someone earned her trust they had it forever. She, herself, was an extremely trustworthy person. She was a great friend. Jo had problems in her life, but she did not let that effect the way she lived her life. She had her 'issues', such as in the beginning she ran from her problems and didn't face them, etc. There were alot of qualities I admired about Jo... She was so convincing because NMK played her so well... ks |

Very nicely put, ks! I agree with all that. The first episode that I saw with a lot of Jo in it, I knew she was my favorite. I loved her toughness and comebacks. I think I also liked her because she wasn't really like me. We have our similarities like our stubbornness and kind of tomboyishness, but Jo was the tough, poor kid, and I liked that. I don't know. Heh. Jo's just awesome.
