Do you think there will be new UM episodes with Dennis Farinah(sp?) or anyone else?
Will they(lifetime or spike) ever show the old unsolved mysteries with Robert Stack? I love the show and wish they would maybe play some the the Stack version or make entirely new segments. |

I think everyone here wonders the same thing. I would rather Spike just rerun the Stack episodes if they aren't going to produce any new ones.

Yes that would be nice. Since Lifetime is also now airing UM at 4 and 5pacific every weekday, it would be nice if they would play one stack and one farina episode, instead of two farinas.

It's interesting that other networks have added shows about the same topics UM used to cover (missing persons, unsolved murders, stalking, lost loved ones) but Spike didn't bother to add any new segments to the Farina episodes. You'd think there would be an audience for it...if it was done well and given a regular timeslot. I can easily name a dozen shows that focus on true crimes including Disappeared, 48 Hours Mysteries and the First 48. Currently Nancy Grace is doing 50 consecutive shows about children and adults that have gone missing. Seems like the time is right for UM to make a comeback.

I wish a new revival of UM would be done with someone else other than Farina as a host. A better revival could feature some past cases and some new cases. The examples of shows that rerungirl mentioned cover a lot of the same topics that UM did and some of those shows have a good UM like vibe.
I'm not a huge fan of Nancy Grace but I give her credit for doing shows on missing children and adults. A |

They recently showed the Mickey Thompson episode again, and there's an interview with his sister Colleen that was clearly filmed recently, within the last 3 years or so. She basically said the exact same statements that she did in the original UM segment. So, did UM film the updated interview, or did they take it from another source? It would be nice to see more updated interviews with the original players.

There are so many crime shows on today, there IS an audience if they advertise a bit and get a good host.(Farina isn't bad but there are better ones out there.)

I'm willing to bet it was taken from another source. The man that ordered the hit on the Thompsons was sentenced in 2006, so I could see a Dateline or some other such program focusing on it around that time since it was such a high-profile, long-unsolved case. (I did notice on the unsolved.com site the "new" composites are posted, instead of those awful (and scary) computer-generated things that aired on the original segment.) If that IS the case, though, I bristle at the notion that Cosgrove-Meurer (or whomever, anymore) would simply pluck an interview--essentially the time, work, and commitment of many other individuals (to include the victims' family)--and paste it into their "revised" segment. I'm sure whomever conducted said interview had to agree to allow that footage to be used, but it still kind of bothers me for some reason. |

Perhaps someone has more precise details? There was i believe one pilot and one new UM episode done for a possible new UM series. It was hosted by Clancy Brown and never made it on air. It is possible that somehow it will get released later in one shape or another. Don't know why they simply scratched the idea and only stayed exclusively with refurbished episodes.

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/art..._Mysteries.php It's unfortunate they didn't stick with it, for whatever reason, although it looks like Brown's unavailability might have had something to do with it. |

As I've said in some of my other posts, I contact CMP from time to time by phone or email for any updates on UM.
The latest time, they told me they were not in production, not planning to produce more shows and not planning on releasing any new boxsets etc. I'm not sure if they just don't tell anyone anything until they feel like it or what but basically they are not forthcoming with information. |

Clancy Brown? Really...interesting choice. I know he has done a bunch of other stuff like "Shawshank Redemption" and "Highlander" (a couple of my favorites). But somehow I can't erase the image of him as the patriach of the highly disfunctional Brown family in the TV movie "Love, Lies, and Murder".

I'm with you, MariposaLKB. That movie, "Love, Lies and Murder," was the first thing I thought of. |
