New "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" Poster Released
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is Hitting Theaters This Summer!
Monday, February 14, 2011 By: MrDisgusting 25 Scramble for your calendar and mark down August 12 as FilmDistrict and Miramax today announced that FilmDistrict has acquired all U.S. rights to Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and that a wide release has been scheduled for said date!! The film was originally set for January 21, 2011 but the release was put on hold due to Disney selling Miramax. Produced by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson, the film stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, Bailee Madison and Jack Thompson and marks the directorial debut of Troy Nixey. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is a remake of a 1973 TV movie bearing the same title, considered by del Toro to be among the scariest ever made. The film was co-written by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins. "The film follows Sally (Bailee Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all - is placed in immediate and grave danger." http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/23448 |

The original is one of my favorite made-for-TV horror films(And one of my favorite horror films, period). I am curious about the remake- that says something about the original being that it was made for TV and getting a theatrical remake.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Poster Creeps Up On You
Source: Ryan Turek, Managing Editor June 2, 2011 If FilmDistrict and Miramax keep the awareness for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark going, I think they're going to have a huge hit on their hands. The trailer is stellar and, now, we've got this poster. Look for it August 26. ![]() http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=19440 |

I like the poster. It has a very retro feel to it. Nice to see some horror posters that are artistic again, and not just a bunch of actors crammed into the frame.
