Linda Lavin was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in New York on Monday
The honor was announced in September and the ceremony took place at the Gershwin Theatre. Joining Lavin was the actor Brian Dennehy, playwright Caryl Churchill, director-librettist James Lapine and others. Lavin, who owns the Red Barn Studio in Wilmington with her husband, Steve Bakunas, is best-known for playing the starring role in '70s sitcom “Alice” as well as for her many turns on Broadway. She's been nominated for five Tony Awards – including last year for “Collected Stories” — and has won once. Lavin is currently in New York starring Off-Broadway in Jon Robin Baitz's dysfunctional family comedy ”Other Desert Cities” at Lincoln Center, and there's been talk of the play moving on to Broadway. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she's received raves for her role in “Cities” as Silda, the alcoholic sister and former writing partner of Polly, played by Stockard Channing. A review in The New Yorker said that Lavin and Channing put on a comedy clinic, while The New York Times said that even when Lavin's character takes an onstage nap, she “somehow add(s) another shade or two to her character.” The next play at the Red Barn, in which Lavin does not appear, is “Lobby Hero.” Bakunas will direct and it opens Feb. 2 for a month-long run. http://www.starnewsonline.com/articl...r-Hall-of-Fame
