What happened to all the great sitcoms the big four networks use to make? Especially (CBS,ABC,NBC)..Back in the day you had great comedians like Lucille Ball, Jakie Gleason, Redd Foxx, Bill Cosby, Jack Benny and John Ritter just to name a few making Americans laugh. With these stupid reality shows taking over, these networks arn't putting out great sitcoms anymore or family ones at that. Alot of these networks took the laugh track out and use the one camera system instead three. Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens and Two and A Half Men, where the last great ones left of a by gone error. Now that the other two are gone THM, the only one left and with Charlie Sheen crazy antics who knows how long THM going to last. Somebody wrote on here ABC is concidering bring back TGIF, the ridiculous...first get some HIT SITCOMS!

Laugh track makes a show good? I saw a lot of people bashing CBS comedies mainly because of the laugh track. Never saw the big deal with single/multicam division either, it's not a measurement for being funny.
There are plenty of sitcoms on the air at the moment, first time in 20 years that NBC has a 3 hour block, CBS has hit sitcoms on two different nights and ABC supposedly wants to do the same next year. Reality shows don't really take space from scripted shows, they co-exist. Did you actually check out every sitcom other than 2.5 Men that's currently on the air? If not, I can recommend Modern Family, Cougar Town and Parks & Recreation for starters. Mike & Molly and Bleep My Dad Says are in the vein of 2.5 Men, if you like the dirty jokes. |

Modern Family and The Middle have foul language? They both are family-friendly and funny. You don't even realize they are single camera, especially The Middle. The Big Bang Theory is traditional and very funny. There are plenty of sitcoms today, especially in the last year or two. Basic cable is getting a whole boat load now, and they are traditional comedies, too (Hot in Cleveland, Retired at 35, Melissa & Joey, Working Class, Love that Girl, The Game, etc.). Sitcoms are not dead, they are returning back to form after a few very bad years.

Modern Family is not funny too me, very dry. Hot in Cleavland? Retired at 35? On TV Land.com people been complaining for a long time that they want the old TV Land, back. I may have to check those other new sitcoms out. Foul language? bleep my Dad say, cuts the cake.

I kind of like the single camera/non-laugh track format of sitcoms a little bit better. It does take awhile to get used to. I agree with the recommendations for Parks&Rec, Modern Family and The Middle.
Raising Hope is another great new sitcom. |

I wouldn't jump the gun and say TV is dead, there some good shows on the air. I do agree that there should be more multi camera comedies with a live studio audience, it makes it more fun.

I will say that Cable has some good sitcoms. I like Hot in Cleveland. Are We There Yet is also pretty good. I can't believe I'm watching a Disney Channel sitcom but Good Luck Charlie is a good family sitcom.

Live studio audience does make it funnier. That's why I love the classic sitcoms, they seem more funnier back in the day.

Thats because TV shows back then (in the 50's, 60's and up to the early 70's) were better. |

From the 50's to early 90's where great sitcoms. Jackie Gleason,Lucille Ball,Jack Benny, George Burns and Greace Allen, Steve Allen, Jonney Carson, Redd Foxx, Bill Cosby, Flip Wilson, Carol Bernet, Bob Newhart,Don Rickels and John Ritter some of the greats!
So much funnier then. |
