Cattrall Upset By Gervais' Globes Joke
Jan. 28, 2010 Kim Cattrall has taken aim at Ricky Gervais for making a "cheap" joke about the "Sex And The City" cast at the recent Golden Globes, branding the gag upsetting and ageist. The British funnyman caused controversy during his hosting duties at the awards show by poking fun at the star-studded audience in a number of barbed jibes. His performance provoked outrage from a number of celebrities, as well as event organisers, who labelled the jokes "totally unacceptable". Gervais ridiculed the stars of Sex and the City 2 during the show by making fun of a publicity poster for the movie, telling the audience, "I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of (1960s TV show) 'Bonanza'." But Cattrall failed to find the funny side, admitting the remarks about the actresses' ages upset her. She tells "Extra", "Ageism is out there and I fight it every day in my own way... So, I think that's kind of a cheap joke... Maybe some people feel that needs to be out there. I don't particularly think so." -IMDB News |

Seriously, how obnoxiously PC has America become?
Comedy has some boundaries, but nothing near what Ricky Gervais did. And if you don't get that, then I lament your sense of humor. Kim Cattral can find a comedian tooling on her way harder than this if she looked. Who cares? It wasn't a personal attack. And truth hurts. |

Gervais Clears Up 2011 Globes Jokes In U.S. Magazine Column
1/5/11 Funnyman Ricky Gervais has addressed the jokes that landed him in trouble after last year's Golden Globes as part of a column he has written for the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. Gervais has been asked back as the Globes host and he'll return to face many of the people who were offended by his gags next week - but he insists those who attacked him for his mean-spirited wisecracks should take a moment to consider why they were so appalled. Before addressing the individual jokes, he writes, "The simple fact is, offence is taken, not given. It's up to you if you're offended or not. And remember, just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right." The British comic admits he loves "exploring taboos" and likes to take an audience to "places it hasn't gone before," suggesting his performance at this year's Golden Globes will be just as sharp-witted as it was a year ago. Addressing the comments Kim Cattrall made after he joked about the age of the "Sex & The City" stars, suggesting the posters for the movie sequel were heavily "airbrushed", the comedian writes: "Kim Cattrall believed this to be ageist. But she's wrong. It's the opposite. Why airbrush a poster of middle-aged women to make them look 25...? The joke is about bowing to societal pressure to appeal to shallow audiences." -IMDB News |
