No offence but that's a really pointless question! It's been technically proven that DVD is a huge improvement on VHS.
I'm a massive DVD fan - I've got about 50 discs in my collection and I have 2 DVD players! And now that they've brought out a DVD player that can also record things onto disc there will soon be no need for VCR's at all!! |

* Like I said before, there has just been a new DVD player released in this country that can record onto DVD's as well as play them. This particular machine is quite expensive at the moment but the price will undoubtably drop once recordable DVD technology becomes more abundant. * DVD's can't get all snarled-up and caught in the player the way video tapes do. * Video tapes can wear out if you play them a lot. DVD's have a projected 'lifespan' of 50 years, provided you treat them right. * DVD's have amazing picture and sound quality that no VCR can even compete with. * DVD movies have loads of extra features such as behind-the-scenes documentaries and cast interveiws that aren't available on the VHS releases. * Most DVD's are presented in widescreen (which is very important to me because I have a widescreen TV). Most videos are not presented in widescreen. * DVD's are smaller and so take up less storage space. * Movies come out to buy on DVD up to 6 months before the VHS version (at least, they do in Britain). |

Call me old fashioned but I like VHS better. I have over 50 VHS tapes of things taped off of TV and if I had a dvd player they'd be worthless. Do they make recordable DVDs and do they have something where I can convert all of my vhs tapes to dvds? Until they have both of those I'm sticking with good ole VHS tapes.

VHS. First of all, more things are available on VHS. And if you drop a VHS, you rarly break it, the same for DVD, but there's more of a chance that DVDs can be damaged. You can record, rerecord, rererecord, rerererecord, etc on VHS(Unless you do it over and over again until your VCR catchs fire) VHS players are easier to use. Everyone knows that most everything will be released on VHS, a lot of things aren't available on DVD. Also, titles that are out of print are usually on VHS. DVD's still are too expensive. And you can't even record on them. If DVDs last until 2005 and they release DVD players you can record on, my family would prob get it. But VHS is economicly safer in that more people have VHS players Vs. DVD players.

VHS. I have tons of VHS tapes. I don't like DVD because you can't record at all, and that's basically what I do.

I usually don't take kindly to new things. DVD is one of them. I hate the idea that some people woud even consider tossing VCRs out the window just because something new and better has come out. I understand that progress is very important... But there should be room for both in this world.
VHS. |
