Default Working for Mel would be a DREAM JOB really

I know he seems cranky, bitter and grouchy, BUT where else could you work and tell the boss EXACTLY how you feel without getting fired? I mean the waitress called him stupid, fat-so, told him to "Kiss my grits!!" called him a dumbo! Basically told HIM when they were gonna come in to work and when they were gonna take a day off, and he NEVER fired them! And I know he threatened to a few times but he never followed through. They even raised hell when he was gonna put in a timeclock, I mean what business doesn't have a time clock!?

All the jobs I ever have had if you even LOOK at the boss the wrong way he starts threatening to fire you and he's NOT kidding around.

I'd love to work for Mel actually!

Thumbs up

Mel was and will always be my favorite Alice character. He really was a teddy bear at heart, just like his portrayer - the late, great Vic Tayback. Personally, I think he should've fired the girls and have Tommy become his business partner. He was a LOT less trouble than the women!!

There's also a photo on the web somewhere of Mel and Tommy in identical uniforms - the white T-shirt, the hat, everything. I just can't find it. Does anyone know which one I mean, and where I can find it? I've looked everywhere and no luck.

I USUALLY sided with the girls, but still it was Mel's business and usually what the boss says GOES, so I thought he was more than indulgent.

About the timeclock episode I was on Mel's side at the beggining of the episode, I mean he had every right to have a timeclock, like I said I dunno of any business that doesn't no matter how "family-like" it is. But toward the end I sided with the girls when he wasn't gonna pay them over time.

Then again - Mel's insurance premiums must have been sky high due to all the times the diner was damaged!! I mean, people literally drove through it, a tree fell on it, and other calamaties I can't recall offhand. Yikes!!

Yeah I thought that story-line was a little over-used, the diner getting destroyed. LOL It also didn't make sense in the later episode when they found all that money hidden in the celin, it had supposedly been put there by the guy who owned the diner BEFORE Mel, but the diner had been destroyed 2 or 3 times before that, so surely they would have found it before then.
