![]() I was always curious, because he always looked burned out. The question is, was he burned out from drugs, booze or work???

The only time I ever remember Johnny drinking on the the show was for an on air demonstration. A highway patrolman came into the studio with a machine that tested reflexes. Johnny and Venus were having drinks and after each drink the patrolman would test their reflexes to prove that consuming alcohol slows down your reflexes. The only problem was that Johnny's reflexes kept getting faster the more he drank!!

It was also strongly implied that he smoked dope, but didn't go in for harder drugs. But he also could've been tired a lot, as he always had that coffee mug (that had all his different on-air monikers on it) with him.

I would guess a little of both. He was a hippie type, you know.

Plus he did the morning shift, which means he probably started around 6AM.

I could see why you would ask. It was hinted at that he did do drugs, nothing too hard, most likely marijuana. Then again, you gotta remember the shift he worked. Anyone would be tired working the early morning shift.

Yeah there's no way Johnny didn't do at least pot, and I'd guess a bit stronger stuff in his younger days. At the time of WKRP he was probably weaned off the stronger stuff (if not he couldn't have done his job as well as he did) but I'd imagine he still "indulged" in the wacky weed when the urge hit him.
