Yes I remember that jingle very well. Back then their slogan was "At McDonald's, we do it all for you!"

I also remember the slogan after that.
"Good Time, Great Taste, at McDonald's". |

Does anyone remember the jingle to the contest that they had during the middle 1970s where someone from McDonalds would call your house and you had a certain amount of time to say a particular phrase?

Barry Manilow???
I wish they would bring back 'You deserve a break today' and retire the annoying 'I'm lovin' it.' I also wish they would bring back the McDLT. |

The McDLT didn't last because of the Styrofoam that was used, but maybe today they can use cardboard like they do with the Big Mac, however the McDLT isn't forgotten, it was referenced on "Futurama". But now they got the Big N' Tasty. And here's a commercial from the McDLT.... |

Another McDonald's jingle I remember from the 70's: "You, you're the one. You are the only reason. You, you're the one. That we take pride in pleasing..."
That was back in the olden days when customer service still meant something and was an assesst for businesses to brag about in their advertising. Sadly those days seeem to be gone.

Well, I may have to correct that... I just googled it, and it appears that, although Manilow did receive credit (from the general public) for writing the jingle, he in fact, only sang it in the commercial. I know for years, I heard that he wrote it, and this web site addresses the fact that authorship has been attributed to him countless times over the years, even though he himself apparently tried to set the record straight on a number of occasions. from that site: "... For a time, Manilow was involved in what he would later call "the jingle jungle"...writing and performing commercial jingles. Over the years, many people mistakenly assume that he wrote the "You deserve a break today" commercial for McDonald's, but in fact, he only sang the song in the ad. The confusion bothered Manilow enough to prompt a letter to the press: "Over the years there's been some confusion about my involvement in the commercial industry. Before my records began to break, I participated in a few dozen jingles, I had a great time, learned a lot and moved on. Recently, I've begun to get credit for writing just about every jingle ever written. I guess that's because in my stage act, I don't stop and break down credits for all the jingles in my commercial medley." Manilow provided a list of jingles he wrote, which included Bowlene Toilet Cleaner, State Farm Insurance, Stridex and Band-Aids. His singing credits only included Pepsi, Jack-in-the-Box, Dr. Pepper and the famed Big Mac spot..." THIS website, the "Jingle Hall of Fame", states: "You Deserve A Break Today (at McDonald's)" [McDonald's fast-food restaurants] words and music by Kevin Gavin and Sid Woloshin (c) 1971 by G & W Publishing Corp. [exact filing date still under investigation] I was afraid the true authors might have remain anonymous, but I guess that site give credit where credit is due |
