I'm from the Yahoo Gomer Pyle USMC group. We got a new member the other day that immediately jumped right into the thick of things, with a post about something he noticed with the platoons dress khaki uniforms. I'm ex-Army, so I wasn't able to help him.
But what he was wanting to know is why he has only seen Sergeant Carter and Gomer wearing their rifle medals. In none of the other shots, even of guys like Duke and Frankie, they are not wearing any medals. I never noticed it before but he's right. I wonder if this was a continuity oversight, but I'm also wondering what the real USMC rule is behind this. I do know that the Marines have three distinct medal designs for rifle. One for expert, sharpshooter and marksman, but I do not know what the rule is behind wearing them. I do find it odd that no one else that I've seen is wearing them other than Sgt Carter and Gomer. |
