Default Carole Cook

I wonder why Carole Cook played so many different characters, especially during the third season. In almost every other episode, she appears, and is somebody different. Why couldn't they just leave her as Thelma Greene? Same thing with Mary Wickes and Kathleen Freeman, they played different characters through out the series.

Carole was Lucy's protégé so I suspect she gave her multiple parts to give her experience and a steady income.

I remember Carole Cook'e character also being called "Mrs. Valance". I agree--they should have had played the same characters throughout the seasons (at least the Danfield era)--it would have made the continuity stronger!

At least Mary Jane Croft changed characters only once. She was Audrey Simmons in the Danfield era and Mary Jane Lewis in the CA era. Her character continued on, on Here's Lucy.

I've always wondered about this thing of Carole Cook being Lucy's "protege". Looking at the third season in particular Carole was not well served at all and was really nothing more than a glorified extra in the episodes she appeared in. In the health farm episode in particular I don't think she even has a line of dialogue and is simply one of the ladies in the group in the exercise classes. I hope Carole was doing other things at this time as anyone could have done those "roles" she did on the third season of "The Lucy Show".

Carole was involved in a lot of stage productions, I believe she even went to Australia for a production (though I don't remember which one). She also costarred with Don Knotts in The Incredible Mr. Limpet around this time as well (1963/1964/or 1965 -- too lazy tonight to look up the exact dates of the movie's release!)

The Incredible Mr. Limpet was released in 1964.

I don't really remember her in The Lucy Show, I got to know her as one of the Grandmother's from Sixteen Candles.

Thanks Marvo! I knew it was somewhere in that time frame, just didn't know exactly when!

That's where I first knew her from too! She mentions Sixteen Candles in the featurette on the Season 2 DVD set.
