I keep getting an error message when my desktop loads. Something about common event manager can't load. What heck is common event manager?
Anyone know how to help me get this error message to stop? It pops up also when I'm installing/uninstalling something and constantly have to close it out. It's freaking annoying Here's part of what I get:

that's part of your Norton Antivirus - you can either try a repair installation (basically reinstall the program over itself), reinstall the program (completely uninstall, then reinstall it) or try the repair instructions here:

As far as I know I don't have Norton Antivirus. I was using Defender Pro, then AVG Free, and now I use CA anti-virus
I bought my computer tower used, so I don't know what could have been on it anti-virus wise, but I don't remember Norton ever showing up anywhere ETA: Thanks Roby but that link didn't help, I don't have $35 to pay to register it, it scanned but I couldn't fix the errors

that ccevtmgr.exe is the Norton Antivirus activity logger, it is probably left over from an old installation that wasn't properly uninstalled.
try the Norton Removal Tool: http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallnorton.shtml ...or we could try to find out where it is running that file from and disable it (or search for the file and rename the whole folder so it can't run it) |

Could it have something to do with Defender Pro? About the time it started popping up, my defender pro folder started doing the same. When I load my desktop my DP folder pops up and I have to close it out. Any idea how to fix that as well?

Okay I was looking up common event manager online, I think it's related to my CA Anti-virus program
That's what I thought I read. I got CA free from my internet provider. I might try to uninstall it and see it that gets rid of it. http://www.file.net/process/ccevtmgr.exe.html |

Yep that's what it was. I uninstalled it then rebooted my computer and the error message is gone.
Know of any good free antivirus programs that have a firewall? I can upgrade later once I get my income tax if needed |

If what the members are giving you computer advice fails to work and you're thinking of getting a new computer, get Carbonite. It saves and backs-up documents, photos, videos, anything on your P.C. that's important to you. Costs $55 a year. Carbonite: Click here. |

AVAST !
It is great and it auto updates the program and the virus database and it STOPS all viruses, trojans, spyware and malware form computers and so far it is done just that on a few times on my computer. A screen will pop up and and you will hear a voice that says xxxx has been blocked. |
