I just found out that the new Syndicated Weakest Link will premiere on Monday, January 7, 2002 and they are putting Family Feud with Louie Anderson on at 1:35AM and 2:05AM. Why the heck are they doing this? Plus they should have this schedule

11:00AM The Price is Right

Afternoon:
4:00PM The Weakest Link
4:30PM Entertainment Tonight

Evening:
7:00PM Hollywood Squares
7:30PM Family Feud

Believe it or not, when I lived in Virginia about 10 years ago when our channel 3 went off the air Philly's KYW came in clear...on cable.

Since KYW is owned by CBS I wonder this is the new line up for all the CBS owned stations.

I remember when Westinghouse owned KYW and I remember there was not that much difference in programs they aired between them and Baltimore's WJZ, Pittsburgh's KDKA and Boston's WBZ. In other words if one carried it then the other group W stations carries it too. Wonder if its still the case?

Same with ABC, most ABC stations carry Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

My NBC station carries WOF and has for years. My ABC station does carry Jeopardy (and has for years), but this year Hollywood Squares, FF, and TTTT went from my NBC station to the ABC one.

My FOX station airs Wheel of Fortune and my CBS station airs Jeopardy. No news yet about where Syndicated Link will fall, but my local WB station airs FF 99, To Tell the Truth 2000 and Card Sharks 2001 all in their midday schedule.

Group W - that brings back memories. Remember how most or all the Group W stations had a local versions of "People Are Talking"? And "P.M. Magazine" was usually called "Evening Magazine" on the Group W stations. And most of them had "Hawaii Five-O" reruns in the 80s.

Anyway, in Boston, WBZ will be showing a double-run of "Weakest Link" from 3:00-4:00 pm. You're right.

Baltimore's WJZ had People are Talking, hosted by Richard Sher ( who I believe is still doing tv in Baltimore ) and a young Oprah Winfrey. Also I believe all the group W stations had "eyewitness news" as well though many of them have since dumped it for other names. I know this was the case in Pittsburgh on KDKA.

WJZ is airing Weakest Link though I am not sure what time. I do get WCBS though, I wonder if they will be airing it in their 4:00 hour as I have heard their 4:00 news got cancelled.

Pittsburgh"s KDKA I believe so ( about the movies ) but I dont remember it was the case with WJZ. Not too far from my area on cable you can pick up both KDKA and WJZ.

I remember the day WBZ switched from NBC to CBS, not because I get WBZ ( though I DO get WSBK down here in WV on sat. ) only because it was the same day WJZ switched from ABC to CBS.
In fact all the Baltimore stations did just that with WBAL going to NBC and WMAR to ABC. Within 15 years WMAR went from CBS ( they lost CBS thanks to the Baltimore Orioles and the fact that WMAR would pre-empt many CBS shows for their own, the CBS station in DC almost went through the same thing. in fact they aired little of the CBS Saturday morning line-up and none of CBS's game shows, not even Press Your Luck and TPIR. For awhile viewers in both cities couldnt enjoy what CBS had to offer). WMAR went to NBC and then finally ABC. FOX is rumored to be moving to another channel in Baltimore as their current UPN station I heard got sold to FOX.

WJZ if I remember was Group W's only ABC station. They showed ABC's line-up of game shows ( remember Trivia Trap with Bob Eubanks? )but for some reason Group W wouldnt allow WJZ to carry the sitcom Soap as they felt it was dirty. They also for some strange unknown reason wouldnt show Dick Clark's American bandstand.

WJZ's Eyewitness News is also a cursed news thanks to the rather large number of deaths among their anchors. I remember when they hired Randy Blair. Blair was a young sports guy that Group W had high hopes for, only to see die of a heart attack at the age of 31 at a charity basketball event, I believe sponsored by Group W.

Strange - I read that "Weakest Link" is being syndicated by NBC Enterprises, which is NBC's syndication arm (check out this story in Electronic Media: http://www.emonline.com/topstorys/110501regis.html). In another story, I read they made a deal with the CBS O&O station group to air the show in syndication on those stations. Whoever's distributing, I guess they didn't include the L.A. market when they made the deal with the CBS O&Os, since it'll be on KNBC in L.A. But it will be on WCBS in New York, so go figure.

For the uninitiated, Viacom owns both the CBS and UPN networks, as well as quite a few CBS and UPN affiliates across the country, particularly in the major markets.

I'm assuming that KCBS chose not to carry Weakest Link since they already have their share of syndicated shows such as Judge Judy and Shipmates.

If you read down a bit further, it does mention NBC Enterprises as the syndicator for "Weakest Link".

NBC Enterprises doesn't appear to be content with the early clearances of "Weakest Link"

As for the previous quote, the article isn't implying that "Millionaire", "Pyramid", and "Weakest Link" are from King World, just that King World's "Dr. Phil" joins those shows as cleared strips. "Millionaire" is being distributed by Buena Vista, and "Pyramid" by Columbia Tri-Star.

Check out NBC Enterprises website (http://www.nbcenterprises.com/), which mentions "Weakest Link" as one of their syndicated offerings, and has an information article specifically on the syndie version of the show.

WBFF, the Fox station out of Baltimore losing its FOX to channel 24 is not surprising at all. WBFF lost a huge chunk of its audience thanks to WTTG ( Washington DC's o/o Fox station ) and their "rule" that cable systems can only carry one Fox station. As a result many many cables sytems were forced to drop WBFF from their line-up. Interesting that neither NBC ( who owns a station in DC ) and CBS ( who owns Baltimore's WJZ ) has no problem with cable systems carring BOTH Washington AND Baltimore NBC and CBS as many do just that. AS a matter of fact I'm surprised WTTG doesnt become the FOX station for Balitmore too as the distance between the two cities is like less that 20-40 miles.

When WBFF goes UPN , I wonder if many of the cable systems that were forced to drop WBFF will put them back on again?

FOX is one tough cookie, kinda like Clear Channel does with its radio stations. They only want you to watch and hear them. If you can get a FOX station that is owned by them-then they want you to watch only that. The local Pax station here began as FOX and they almost lost it before they went on the air ( though they did lose FOX later on because of money woes but thats a diferent story ). When WTTG heard about the "future FOX 60" they threaten to sue and it took a high ranking Senator to get WTTG off their backs from what I remember.
