Question Do You Think John Amos Should Appear At 'Good Times' Reunions? Or Should He Stay Away

Granted, I loved Amos as James Evans, but he ruined the show. He left his other castmates high and dry. I your own opinion, should he still be able to appear with the rest of the cast or should he lay low?

John Amos did not leave Good Times, he was fired. Everybody knows that.

And yes, he should be at cast reunions. He was an important part of the show.

Yea Amos was fired. He didn't want to leave the show. Even if he did leave on his own, he was part of the show and should be at the reunions.

Definitely needs to be there. To me, Amos was the heart of the show, regardless of how long he was there.

He should definitely be part of the reunions! Especially now that Esther Rolle is gone, he's the "parental figure" of the show. I know that Bern Nadette Stanis and Ralph Carter especially still look up to him as a mentor/father figure.

Also what I like about this is that although he had problems with the direction of the show, he seems proud to be a part of it. It's quite a contrast to some of the other celebrities who seem ashamed of their tv roots. And john Amos should be proud. Good Times was a ground breaking sitcom and James Evans was one of the best sitcom fathers in tv history.

Yes, he really does seem to be proud of the fact that he was the first real, strong black father figure on TV. I mean, James Evans could be a bit of a bear at times, but there was no denying how much he loved his wife and kids.

If anything, Esther Rolle actually did leave the show for one season and it hurt the show. She did return for the sixth and final season, but it was too late. The damage had been done and the show was cancelled.

Why was Amos fired in the first place?

He spoke out publicly in a magazine interview about his dissatisfaction with some aspects of the show, mainly the JJ character, who he felt presented a questionable stereotype or representation of black youth.

Amos was very opinionated and didn't hold back and it resulted in Norman Lear firing him, although it was reported at the time that Amos quit.
