I realized that in the 1st season both Mallory and Alex were different. Mallory wasn't stupid. Alex didn't talk about money or politics very much and he was a lot more sensititive. Later on, all he cared about was money and he was a caricature. I think Jennifer was the only character who didn't change very much.

This might be because in the first season the show had just started. The cast probably didn't have the swing of things.

Actually, I thought the show was better in the first season. It might not have been as funny, but it was more realistic and in my opinion there were better storylines.

That's actually pretty true. Alex is still sensitive, though. He just doesn't show it until the end of each episode.
