When The Young and the Restless debuted in 1973, the soap opera's game show competition was the Art Fleming hosted Jeopardy and The Who, What or Where Game on NBC and the 70s version of Password and Split Second on ABC. Other shows that went against the CBS soap included the following:
Jackpot! Showoffs The Magnificant Marble Machine To Say the Least Name That Tune The Gong Show The Better Sex Second Chance (The forerunner of Press Your Luck) Card Sharks The $20,000 Pyramid Family Feud Chain Reaction Mindreaders Hot Potato 50 Grand Slam Password Plus The Fun Factory (A short-lived game-variety show that was hosted by Bobby Van). And,it's a shame, too. Some(not all )of the game shows that ABC and NBC pitted against "The Young and the Restless"were very good. And,when it went up against "The Young and the Restless",ironically,NBC moved "Jeopardy",(then hosted by the late Art Fleming)from its comfortable Noon/11 AM Central timeslot, back to 1:30 pm/12:30 pm. its original timeslot in 1964.
