Ever since the series finale of Lost aired on May 23, my only thought of the show has been, “What the hell happened?” No fond reminiscences of Jack or Desmond or Crazy Claire; just wondering how Lost ended in the worst way imaginable. The entire sixth season was a mess, but I was willing to look past the Temple and Dogen and Allison Janney’s Mother if Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof could give a great ending to an otherwise great show.
They didn’t. The first 90 minutes of the episode felt like fan fiction (Rose! Bernard! Vincent!), followed by a groan inducing (and hilarious—at the viewing party I went to, about 20 people began laughing at what was happening on screen, instead of the intended emotional resolution) final hour, complete with a man named Christian leading the cast into Heaven. Even worse, Carlton and Damon became indignant when others didn’t like the episode. It took until Damon saw the latest Harry Potter film to understand why fans of his show didn’t like the finale. It doesn’t take magic, Damon: it’s just because it wasn’t any good. http://warmingglow.uproxx.com/2010/1...odes-of-2010/5 |
