Green Acres flubs/inconsistancies - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was watchin a Season 3 episode called "Oliver vs. The Telephone Co." and it mentions that Sarah is Mr. Trendall's mother. However in a previous season, Mr. Kimball states that Sarah is HIS mother. Now, there's NO WAY that Kimball and Trendall could be brothers, so... who's mother is she?

And another one. Also, in this episode, in the newspaper, the same image of Mr. Douglas is used as the on that's used in the episode, "Parity begins at home", when his fist in the air, and his mouth is open and in the background is the inside of Mr. Drucker's store.

Anybody else find any?

I know that in season one when they are celebrating their wedding anniversary they say that it is their 11th and then later on in the fifth season Lisa says that they have only been married for ten years.

One I noticed the other day is in the opening titles. Lisa says she's allergic to hay but she sneezes in Manhattan.

Maybe Oliver had some hay for his rooftop gardening? That's a stretch, I know...!

What about Mr. Haney: Was the character written consistently as far as marital status?

Edit: I believe Haney mentions his wife at least once, yet later is among the bachelors (along with Sam Drucker, Joe Carson, etc.) who want to go out with Hank Kimball's gorgeous new co-worker.

That's a pretty good solution. He did have a little garden growing on his balcony.

I think the biggest inconsistency for me was having the Douglas family meet the Clampett family and later the Hooterville citizens parody The Beverly Hillbillies.

But I guess Petticoat Junction did the same thing but in a slighter version.

There were lots of ties between the series. Sam Drucker visited the Clampetts in Beverly Hills, and all of the Clampetts visited Hooterville. I guess the play/parody was a good example of Green Acres not taking itself too seriously...!

And yes -- there was as you mention a brief spoof of The Beverly Hillbillies on Petticoat Junction, with Betty Jo and Steve and others in the Clampett truck.

Following the cancellation of Petticoat Junction in 1970, Mike Minor, Lori Saunders, and Charles Lane all got work on The Beverly Hillbillies as other characters. Of course, in the case of Mike and Lori especially, the Clampetts already "knew" them (as Steve and Bobbie Jo). Odd to see them play other roles so soon after the end of PJ, but reinforcing closeness of the Henning family of shows.

I spotted a continuity error in the opening credits. Lisa's bracelet moves from her wrist to the middle of her forearm when Oliver and her are standing together in front of the house at the end of the credits.

In one episode from season 3 "Alf & Ralph Breakup" Ralph Monroe has a fight with her brother and has to stay with the Douglases...while there she ends up cooking and turns out a gourmet dinner for Oliver, who of course doesn't want her to leave (but she does when she makes up with Alf). In another episode however from later in the season "Instant Family" the Douglases have to take care of a bunch of children while their mother is in the hospital, Ralph offers to help cook for the kids and Oliver is surprised that she even knows how to cook (seemingly forgetting her earlier in the season gourmet meal)....to make matters worse, in this episode she uses work tools to cook with.

ITA. I never liked that. However, it was Green Acres that did the spoof before they met the actual Clampetts at the Shady Rest Hotel. (A year later, I believe). I wish the parody hadn't been done. Oh,well.

Note only did the TV universe thing get disrupted with "The Beverly Hillbillies" parody (versus meeting them in person) but as often as Sam Drucker and even Uncle Joe appeared, there was actually an episode in which Eb is watching "Petticoat Junction" on the Douglas' TV set, train, theme music and all! (He even makes a comment about producers' relatives, apparently a remark about Paul and Linda Kaye Henning.)

One thing I could never understand was the timeline of the later seasons. For the first three seasons whenever Oliver or Lisa referenced how long they'd been on the farm it would correspond to reality. For example in "The Day of Decision" when they say it was their 6-month anniversary on the farm, in reality that episode aired very close to 6 months after the first episode. Also, at the start of the third season I remember Oliver saying he'd been a farmer for two years, which was correct. However, by the late fifth season, Lisa mentioned they had been living there for three years, when it was much closer to five. In several early sixth season episodes they say they've been there only four years. Maybe I'm looking into this too much but I would have thought Jay Sommers would have paid more attention to this sort of thing considering this show was his "baby".

I seem to recall Fred Ziffel calling out to his wife on Petticoat Junction with a name other than Doris. Maybe in S1, Ep 1 of PJ (or whenever he debuted).

Yes! That is totally correct!!

It was a very old Petticoat Junction ep. I forget what Mrs. ZIFFEL'S name was, but I remember Posting about this before here on SO .Either on a Green Acres or Petticoat Junction thread. They also showed some of Fred's pigs, but Arnold wasn't there!

I'm watching Season 1 now from the DVDs and I just saw the episode where "Alph" first arrives thru the floor(!) when supposedly installing indoor plumbing. When he introduces himself his name is not Alph. Also there is no Ralph on the scene either.
