Question about Maris - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find the thread. I have never been a big Frasier fan, but I just started watching it after reading Kristin's awesome Frasier fan fic!

The last episode I watched was "The Last Time I saw Maris" which was the one where Niles was worried when Maris had been missing for three days and they found out that she'd gone shopping. Then Frasier persuaded Niles to stand up to her and tell her how angry he was. Hilarious!

I noticed that they never actually showed Maris and I noticed it in another episode too-the one where Niles and Daphne are snowed in (something like that-I've forgotten the title).

So my question is, has Maris ever been shown, or do they just "film around her"?

No. Maris is never seen. Just like Norm's wife on Cheers and Carlton the Doorman on Rhoda she remains unseen to TV viewers.

Well, if you want to get technical, we do see Maris for a split second in "Rooms w/ a View," but she's all bandaged up from plastic surgery, so we never see her face. The producers have said they didn't want to show her, b/c everyone has an image in their mind of what Maris looks like.

BTW, Andrea, nice seeing you on this board. I'm proud to have created another Frasier fan!

Interesting! I thought it was kind of funny that they didn't show her in either episode that I watched. It's funny that I always get stuck on these shows way after they go off the air. Maybe they're just more appealing in reruns? Anyway, thanks Marv and Kristin!
