Was there ever a Christmas episode on LTB? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I can't recall one. Seems like there would have been as conservative and mid-west as the family was. Also, they were religious as there were mentions of them going to church.

It's a shame if there wasn't a Christmas episode.

No Christmas episode of LITB was ever produced and I agree a missed opportunity for a series that had such a long run and was a family show...Dennis The Menace did 3, Father Knows Best 2 (actually 3 but one was a flashback with new segments), Hazel 2, Bewitched 4 (actually 5 but one was a flashback episode with a brief new segment).....the record is Ozzie & Harriet with over 8!

It actually is easier to name classic family shows that didn't do one....here are some examples....

I Dream Of Jeannie
My Three Sons (shocking) They did a thanksgiving one
Family Affair they sorta did one but it took place in October for a dying girl
Gomer Pyle, USMC
The Munsters

and here are some surprising series that did a holiday themed episode...
Car 54, Where R U?
Gilligan's Island Mainly a flashback episode
The Real McCoys
The Addams Family
Mister Ed
The Monkees

There was an episode in one of the early seasons that took place near Christmas. Beaver was cast as an angel in a Christmas pageant at school. So June gave him money to get a haircut so he would look nice on stage. But Beaver loses the money in typical Beaver fashion and being afraid to admit this to his mother he has Wally cut his hair. The haircut turns out horribly and Beaver ends up playing an angel with ski cap on his head to hide the bad haircut.

There was an episode called "The Haircut" that had a Christmas theme. Besides that one, there were no other Xmas episodes.

Not only were there no Christmas episodes in the series, but I can't remember one that showed snow or even cold weather. As I've read that the series was supposedly set in Shaker Heights (a Cleveland suburb) although the name "Mayfield" (another Cleveland suburb) was used, you wonder why snow or cold weather was never a part of it? The only weather that I can think of in the series was the episode when Beaver & Wally camped in a tent in the backyard and there was heavy rain during the night and in another episode when Wally went on a boy scout outing where rain hit and he rode back home with the other scouts in an open truck.

Or why if it was supposedly set in Ohio- Ward would mention that the nearest ocean is 20 miles away(mentioned in The Boat Builders).

Unfortunately, with persons like Joe Connlley and Bob Mosher and others who were closely involved this series now decesed, we may never know why no Christmas episode was ever done. The main sponsors during the network TV run were Ralston Purina and, I think, Remington Rand. You'd think they might have had some say in having a Christmas show or two during that time.

No, they never made a Christmas episode. I don't like that either, they missed out on a great opportunity. Maybe Jerry Mathers or Tony Dow would have an answer as to why, my guess is someone involved with the show balked at the idea of doing Christmas themed episodes.
