Remember Andy Griffith's son, Opie Taylor, form the "Andy Griffith Show"? After getting in trouble in school, eleven-year-old "Opie Joins the Marines."

Unfortunately, he runs away to California from North Carolina, because he wants to be with Gomer Pyle in Sgt. Carter's platoon.

Good plot, with a good ending.

Those Gomer Pyle episodes always makes me laugh. I didn't watch one today but the last one I watched was the one where Sgt Carter goes back home for a weekend & Gomer accidently gets knocked out on the plane & ends up going with him.

I actually do like Sgt. Carter, who has an IQ slightly higher than Gomer's.

In "Cat Overboard," Gomer smuggles a pregnant cat on board a ship because he doesn't want to leave her alone at a time like this.

Gomer tries to help a lonely Sergeant Carter by setting him up for a date with his cousin. But is she ugly or pretty? “Sergeant Carter Dates a Pyle” after dodging his way through a bevy of wrong decisions.

Sergeant Carter keeps losing bets when his men get beaten by another platoon. But when he learns that "Crazy Legs Gomer" is a star runner, he bets heavily--against Gomer.

It's bad enough when Sgt. Carter breaks up with his girlfriend Bunny. But then, "Gomer the Peacemaker" steps in.

Sergeant Carter challenges an obnoxious Navy Chief Petty Officer to a boxing match, not knowing that he's the former fleet champion. And Gomer is unable to prevent "The Grudge Match."

Sgt. Carter is smart enough to recognize a con artist in "Gomer and the Father Figure," but not smart enough to keep from getting conned himself.

Folks, Sergeant Carter IS a nice guy, but he's only slightly more intelligent than Gomer.

Since their father died, Sgt. Carter has taken good care of his younger sister. But he is horrified when she becomes engaged to a friendly non-military type. Wanting her brother's approval for "A Groom for Sergeant Carter's Sister," she starts dating Gomer in order to (successfully) frighten her brother into approving her marriage to her true love.

Gomer uses "Horses and Men" cologne. That figures.

Gomer takes Sgt. Carter with him when Gomer wins "A Vacation in Vegas." The two Marines have widely different views on how to have fun, but after all, it IS Gomer's money.

I'm afraid that I didn't think this one was too funny.
