Inside - the garage was like the 12th Precinct squad room on Barney Miller or the bar on Cheers. The garage was as much a character as the others.

Think about it though, one of the funniest moments on Taxi and in sitcom history, was when Jim was at the BMV taking the written portion of his driving test, and the rest of the gang was there cheering him on!! ("What does a Yellow light mean?" .... "Slow Down"......"Whhhhaaaattt dozzzzzz a yellllllloooooooooooow liiiiiiiiiiiiight mean?????"

There's a lot of funny scenes that took place at Mario's, or at get togethers at the cabbies' homes.
