Wow you do come up with some odd ones, I guess it is to start conversations with new threads, or to get your post count up, nothing personal, but I usually just laugh and don't bother to answer....first without "A Hard Day Night" The Monkees wouldn't have exsisted....I guess your comparison is a TV series where the stars just break out in song?....i am not sure how old you are? But Glee is nothing but a broadway television musical....as for TV stars breaking out in song, it was done with intense failure on ABC's COP ROCK nearly 20 years ago and countless other tv shows....it is a TV show musical only without anything original....at least movie musicals or theatre are usually based on past successful original work....Grease, Rocky Horror, (I enjoyed Glee doing "RH" but what was really the point?) The answer to your question is DISAGREE obvioulsy, because The Monkees were a manufactured group with original songs, but it was done in romp style or performance, not like broadway or the movies, The Monkees weren't in the middle of a sentence and then broke into song...I am giving you credit for certainly already knowing that, I guess thats why I find this particular question odd.....There is no comparison to The Monkees or Glee. I actually like Glee, but if you really analize it is there any real point recreating past artisitic expression frame by frame, the britney episode was great or Gwenath P doing "Umbrella", but why not just watch "Singing in the rain" or Rhiannas' video?....and everyone had long forgotten about Journeys "Don't Stop Believin" until David Chase brillantly used it in the controversial final episode of The Sopranos. Within a year, Glee was using the song in every promo it could to promote the series, basically Glee is harmless musical entertainment for the young to expose them to real music, just like their instructor says. I am very open minded and don't care about anyones' sexual preference but the series has a very heavy "gay agenda" which I will not start that debate, but two guys singing deans martins classic "Baby, its cold outside" to me was a bit much for an audience made up of tweens, and actors in their 20's who are portraying teenagers spreading their legs and exposing their panties in a mens fashion magazine had the media's panties in a stirr for a week....basically it is currently the flavor of the week, where we love them tear them down, chew'em up and spit them out....the Fox "rupert murdock" publicity machine.....well there is an answer for you....here's my freedom of expression opinion how about when you do post these questions, give a little educated background first, and your own opinion, and at other times instead of practically cutting and pasting headlines from the paper to start threads..(with most of them based with on no real facts, got to stay away from that NY Post.....lol....when is Keith Olbermann getting cancelled anyway?....the post said anyday now about a year ago...lol....Just my own opinion in this great country which I am entitled My sincere best to you....Happy New Year Brian!

One more comes to mind....there was a critically acclaimed little show on NBC called "American Dreams" that was cancelled after three seasons that was similar, only the girls were regulars on American Bandstand.

Some will be happy and some might miss me....but I will be taking a break from posting in the New Year! As my television activities will be taking me away from all this all important talk, even though I have expressed many times "Sitcoms" is the only site if its kind I visit, but in recent months, I am not getting the satisfaction as much as I used to enjoy....too much "blah, blah, blah" from the all important "I am drinking a Coke, right now" twitter generation....not directed at you my dear sitcoms associate Brian. Again Happy New Year to all and during my self-imposed absense, in the words of the great "Rodney King" ".........................................." and if you don't know what the quote was that is partially the reason why I am leaving....lol......Love, peace, freedom, peace and understanding to all....I embellished the words of Mr. Costello and I don't mean "Lou"!

wow nearly 1300 posts in 7 years, what was wrong with me?

Count me as one who will miss you. I don't come here as often as I used to because a lot of my friends here have moved on for various reasons. I've always enjoyed reading your posts.

I'm going out responding to a positive post, not that everyone had to agree with me about any of what I called my "personal opinion essays".....but I always tried to write when only necessary and give friendly advice or/and real facts....I have "met" alot of friends here and I consider you one of them....I am glad at this point so far, Brian took my long essay with the comedic tone in which it was written, Brian you brought alot of threads here about everything and every topic and I hope you can channel that energy into whatever you would like in addition to sitcoms.... I never considered myself better than anyone else, I am just fortunate enough to make my living in the TV industry for over 30 years and believed at times I could offer insight that others couldn't..I wasn't always right and I am not opposed to anyone who has 2000 posts in a year, just that is alot of words or some have more time available than others....and I applaud those who do! Some people do take themselves way too serious and are mean, I got many personal im's in support when I ocassionally visited the God forbidden politics board and some were down right ignorant and full of curse words. But the GOOD always outweighed the ignorant but I do feel if you are a administrator at sitcoms you should be held to a higher standard as the person somewhat represents the board and sitcoms, but some are also so silly, not-educated and believe their opinion is fact, it is very poor unprofessional behavior, but I gave up worrying or thinking about those type of people long ago, realizing you can't have a dignified conversation or a "battle of wits with a unarmed person". My best to everyone at sitcoms, my special friends don't be bullied to not speak your mind or just stick to the real purpose of this site, to discuss what I believed to be is our shared common interest, our love of television....I'll be back someday, again I appreciate your kind words and sincere much respect TO EVERYONE whether we battled or not.....lol.... Happy 2011!

Cool

I think Glee owes a lot more to Fame than it does to the Monkee's.
