Thought Shows in which the star almost quit, but was persuaded to stay on

Perry Mason comes to mind.In 1964-1965 the late Raymond Burr almost called it quits(in 2 episodes that season Mike Connors and the late Barry Sullivan subbed),but was convinced to stay on for the remainder of the 1964-1965 season, and one more season,1965-1966.Know of any others?

Friends was going to end after the 9th season but the cast was persuaded to do one more season. Each got a million per ep to do the 10th season.

In the second season of Dallas Steve Kanaly was ready to leave because he felt the Ray Krebbs character had too small a role on the show. Larry Hagman persuaded him to stay, and the next season it was revealed that Ray was Jock Ewing's illegitimate son.

Bewitched. I believe Elizabeth Montogomery was ready to end the show after season 5 or 6 (I can't remember which) and Dick York of course did leave the show due to health issues. The ratings were still very good though, so ABC persuaded her to stay. I had heard that they wanted to do a 9th season too, but that never happened. I can't imagine what that would have looked like considering they were really struggling for material in season 8.

I have met a few cast members of "Bewitched." But not Mrs. Montgomery; I sure would have liked to have met her and Dick York.

Yeah I met Buck Owens one time and he said the reason he wanted to and eventually did leave was because he didn't like that the show was moving away from it's pure country root and was becoming more of a typical 70s variety show.

I read in a TVGuide article a long time ago, that Andy Griffith was going to call it quits on "Matlock" when the 5th season ended, but NBC persuaded him to stay on.In fact, the article was called "Matlock:Case Closed".

Patrick Duffy wanted to leave "DALLAS" after, I think, the 7th season, and did but after one season without him Larry Hagman talked him into coming back.

Nichelle Nichols wanted to leave "STAR TREK" after the first season, but Martin Luther King talked her into staying.

Ted Knight nearly quit The Mary Tyler Moore Show because he felt people was seeing him as Ted Baxter but the producers talked him into staying. Ted Baxter became a bit more human especially when the relationship with him and Georgette.

Bonnie Franklin nearly quit One Day At A Time because of the quality of the scripts during the first season. Glad she spoke when she did.
