After weeks of speculation, Syfy just announced that it won't renew Stargate Universe for a third season, putting an end (for now) to the long-running Stargate franchise on the network. The upcoming 10 episodes of Stargate Universe's second season, which will air in the Spring, will be the series' last. The news follows the recent cancellation of another franchise Syfy series, the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica. The Stargate franchise -- consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe -- has aired on Syfy since 2002. Syfy's slate of returning series includes Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven, which will be joined next year by new series Being Human, which launches on January 17, the recently greenlit series Alphas as well the Battlestar Galactica prequel movie/backdoor pilot Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.

The fan reception to this show was very negative so I know of a lot of people that will be happy to see this show gone.
A lot of the bad reception came from fans not liking the fact that "SG: Atlantis" was canceled and did not like the tone of the new show "SGU". It wasn't the case but a lot of people thought that "Atlantis" was canceled to launch "SGU" and they didn't like it. I hope that Robert Carlyle gets picked up on another show. |

The show lost its "stride" in the first season and never regained it.There were far too many dull episodes and not enough "exciting" ones.
Perhaps the producers should rethink what they are doing to the franchise before they attempt to create another program. |

Well, I know I was in the minority but I really liked this show. I liked the darker tone, the serialized storytelling, and the fact that it felt nothing like the other two shows. And I liked the other two shows as well. The first season was a little rough but with the second season it was really starting to hit it's stride and given time I think this show could've been something great.
