I could have sworn I read somewhere that Elizabeth Short ran into a famous movie actor when she was trying to break into Hollywood. I think this actor offered to give her advice about Hollywood, but when she got back to his place he tried to have his way with her, but she got upset and left.
The actor later read about The Black Dahlia murder and he was mortified when he realized it was the same girl he took home that day. I almost positive I read this somewhere. Does anyone know who the famous actor was she ran into? |

It took some looking into, but it turns out the actor in question was Franchot Tone. Here's the full backstory behind his encounter with Elizabeth Short?
http://lalalandhistory.blogspot.com/...e-part-iv.html On a related note, a few years after the Black Dahlia case, another aspiring actress named Jean Spangler went missing in L.A. and rumours abounded that she may have been involved in a secret affair with Kirk Douglas. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...gler_jean.html |

I looked around IMDB (internet movie database) to see if there was any info about it, but I couldn't find it. Seems like I read the same thing. I'm gonna go check a book I have and see what it says.

The Encyclopedia of Unsolved Crimes, second edition, has a few pages on the Dahlia. It names the usuals suspects which include a couple doctors (Hodel, etc) and kinda goes out on a limb with some mafia connections.
The book names a source who says Norman Chandler, publisher of the LA Times, impregnated her, she used that to blackmail him, and he had her killed. That's as close to anyone famous in LA that the book comes up with and I don't think it even shows that she was acquainted with that guy, it just throws that out as a theory regarding her murder. |
