Cool Christmas ... Brady Bunch Style!

Seasons Greetings!

I got two Brady-related gifts for Christmas--a Christmas tree ornament consisting of a Brady lunchbox and three food items, and a 2002 calendar.

One thing I noticed, both the lunchbox and the calendar had Alice in the bottom center square 3-by-3 instead of Mike, and the logo for the show was in the center square instead of Alice. How come?

Oh, and let me explain, that "3-by-3" to which I am referring in my previous post is the setup of all nine characters on "The Brady Bunch" at the end of the opening sequence on the original series. (where you hear "and this groove must somehow form a family/that's the way we all became The Brady Bunch/The Brady Buuunnnnch/The Brady Buuunnnch/That's the way we* became The Brady Bunch!")

* "we" is substituted with "they" in earlier episodes when the theme was sung by the Peppermint Trolley Singers instead of the Brady kids

James, I've noticed on the Brady memoribilia produced in the last few years (lunchbox, keychain, etc.) that Mike is not included. One item (I can't remember which) uses the famous photo of the Brady family on the steps, but the image is cropped on the right-hand side so Mike is omitted. I'm guessing that Robert Reed's estate did not give permission for his image to be used (perhaps there was a dispute over financial compensation).

Smile Brady Bunch Lunchbox Ornament

Lucky you...that lunchbox ornament was sold out everywhere! I had seen it a few weeks before Thanksgiving in one card store, went back a week later, and it was all sold out. I had visited several other stores that carried it after that, and they were all out of it too! I was so disappointed---it looked really cool too!

About the missing picture of Mike--I noticed the same thing as well. A friend of mine gave me this little metal Brady Bunch cannister (like for holding pens & pencils) last year, and Mike's picture isn't on it either. Every single person who sees it always says to me "Hey, where's Mr. Brady?" Just like the other post says, I guess permission was never given for the merchandise...that's a shame.

P.S. I enjoyed watching one of my favorite episodes 4 times over christmas (on satellite tv)--the Brady Bunch Christmas episode (Carol loses her voice). I don't know why, but it's so christmasy to me. It has that old-fashioned Christmas quality I grew up with in the 70's...I just gotta watch it every year

Let me add that the lunchbox ornament came with not one, not two, but three ... count 'em, THREE!!! ... little ornaments inside--a sandwich (with purple filling--must be jelly), a thermos, and an apple (I remember that was a very popular piece of fruit on the show).

If I had been designing the ornament, I would have included porkchops, applesauce, and pepperoni pizza.

How about an ice cream sundae? Remember when Marcia (and Peter, and later Jan) worked at Haskell's Ice Cream Parlor in Episode #104, "Marcia Gets Creamed"?

Sad I wish I had gotten that ornament!

I shouldn't have hesitated when I first saw it in the store. I had no idea it had lil' food items inside--that makes it even better!
