Cindy Williams wore her hair very short during the run of Laverne & Shirley. I was trying to think of some other sitcom actresses before and since who were known for wearing short cuts. Here are a few I thought of:
Jackie Joseph -- The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle Nancy Culp -- The Beverly Hillbillies and The Bob Cummings Show Sheila Kuehl [sp] -- The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis Linda Goodfriend -- Happy Days Alice Ghostley -- Bewitched and Designing Women also, the actress whose name escapes me who played Ralph Monroe on Green Acres and relatively short: Bonnie Franklin -- One Day at a Time There were so many who wore long styles by comparison. |

Ralph Monroe on "GREEN ACRES" was played by Mary Grace Canfield.

Joyce DeWitt wore her hair short during seasons 4-6 on 'Three's Company'
Florence Henderson on 'The Brady Bunch' (except for the mullet years) Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence on 'The Carol Burnett Show' (I know, it's not a sitcom, but they still had cute hair) Aneta Corsaut on the color episodes of 'The Andy Griffith Show' |

Thanks for your replies -- there were more ladies in the category than I had thought. I think Sandy Duncan also qualifies from her series Funny Face in addition to the one you've mentioned.
Before going on, I recommend any Cindy Williams fans to see her old episode of Hawaii Five-O. Gorgeous long hair. I know it's not easy to visualize because we're so used to her short styles, but it looked superb to me. At times I think Barbara Billingsley may have had her hair pinned back, concealing the length, though it certainly looked short in the early years of LITB. By the end of the series she was wearing a longish, flipped-end style. A while back, I was watching a rare example of Shirley Jones with longer hair in a TV movie she did circa 1973. Really nice hair and it suited her! Thanks also re: Mary Grace. Really an effective actress on TAGS and Green Acres. I had thought of including Connie Hines from Mister Ed, but again I think she wore her hair pinned at times. In one ep where she had it down, she looked stunning. Also saw the length of hers on The Untouchables (1960 ep). And I should also mention the sitcom Julia, was it Diahnn Carroll [sp] in the lead role with short hair? Finally, Bea Arthur wore fairly short styles on Maude and Golden Girls. |
