In the link above, it talks about how drunks & alcoholics are being made into laughter. Is 'Two & A Half Men' wrong for making light of Charlie Harper's drinking? Especially considering Charlie Sheen's own personal substance abuse problems? Is it really a big deal or does the article make a point?

I don't think any of us who watch 2.5 Men are looking for life lessons here. I think we understand that Charlie Harper is a womanizing boozehound with no redeeming moral qualities. In fact, that's probably why I like him.
Let's face it, Charlie Sheen found the role of a lifetime: He gets to play himself. Or a version of himself. And a version of himself that's probably a lot more charming and fun than the real thing, to be sure. I like the fact that the humor on this show is politically incorrect. Probably not a show that AA would endorse, but I find shows with political incorrectness refreshing in this day and age.

I think this show does a great job of showing how badly a person under the influence of alcohol behaves and what terrible decisions they make. If watching this show doesn't make you stop drinking nothing will. Charlie Harper's life is a great warning against the dangers of alcoholism.

I disagree, because no matter what Charlie gets into, he always comes out smelling like a rose. He always ends up with a gorgeous babe and stumbles into money and good luck.
He never really learns from his mistakes, because he doesn't have to. Something always comes along and he ends up on top. |

Am I the only one who thinks the character's downward spiral this season is being written on purpose?
