Music It has been said that sequels to films are NEVER

As good as the original. My choice is 1963's "Son of Flubber"-with the late Fred Mac Murray reprising his role as Professor "Nutty Ned"Brainard in 1961's "The Absent Minded Professor".It wasn't a bad film, and had some bright spots, but it WASN'T as good as the original 1961 version of "The Absent Minded Professor".Know of any other sequels that are not as good as the original?Feel free to post.

*The Santa Clause trilogy. All are good, but nothing beats the first one.
*Toy Story. Loved all of them, but their's nothing like when Woody and Buzz first met.

The original Karate Kid was great, the second came close to the first for me. I didn't care for the 3rd one it should have been way different.

It seems the 2nd film has no oomph in the sequel world, but the 3rd film seems to be better than the 2nd, but not as good as the 1st!

Most of the time the sequel is not as good as the orginal.

The list could go on and on for sequels that are inferior.

It would be easier to talk about sequels that are better than the first film, as their numbers are much smaller.

The only sequel to win an Oscar was "Godfather II", and have the original win too!

The sequals to both the Godfather and Superman are the only two films I can think of that are as good as the original.

That said the last two Superman's were weak. The third Godfather wasnt bad, but a far cry from the first two.

Besides the ones already listed for sequels that are as good, or better than the original....

I would add -

The Empire Strikes Back(many even consider it better than Star Wars), Return Of The Jedi

Aliens

Even though it was a planned trilogy: The Two Towers, Return Of The King

Back To the Future 2 and 3

Lethal Weapon 2

Die Hard 2, Die Hard With A Vengeance

Addams Family Values

Buck Privates Come Home(sequel to Abbott & Costello's Buck Privates)

Bride Of Frankenstein(I prefer this over the original)

Phantasm II

The Road Warrior aka Mad Max 2

Star Trek II- I consider better than the original, as I do Star Trek IV

Terminator II

Gremlins II

The Dark Knight- I prefer this over the original

Toy Story 2 and 3

The Evil Dead 2

Dawn Of The Dead '78

Escape From The Planet Of The Apes

Many in the James Bond franchise I consider as good as Dr. No, same for the Blondie franchise.

(SPOILER) (SPOILER) (SPOILER)

I may as well throw in my opinion. I loved Pirates of the carribean Curse of the black pearl better than Dead mans chest and at worlds end. Infact, I thought At worlds end was horrible. I only own it because I wanted to complete the collection. But #4, On stranger tides, was even better than #1. I think it was because of the relationship between the Christian guy and the Mermaid. POTC 4 I thought was a great movie. Can't wait for it to come out on DVD. Oh and it was great that they cast Penelope Cruz instead of Keira Knightly.

One of my favorite sequels is The Devil's Rejects.
That's just a damn good movie.

I thought Halloween II was a pretty good sequel. It won't match up to the original but it's still entertaining. They probably should have stopped right there though.
