Confused Would You Consider Florence Jean Castlebury From 'Alice' A Sexy Character?

Was there something I was missing? Do you think Flo was sexy? She certainly attracted a heck of a lot of men on the sitcom. Did she have an underlining quality about her?

She's not really my type, but I could see where burly truck drivers or lumberjacks might find her sexy.

Especially when she makes herself so, ahem, available. Plus, I think Flo falls into the same category as The Golden Girls' Blanche Devereaux - they both see themselves as Southern belles frozen in time.

Well, not to be indelicate, but I'm sure the fact that she was so available (to quote Monika) is really the main feature of her attractiveness. No disrespect to Polly Holliday (who was VERY made up in that role) but Flo wasn't particularly physically attractive, it was her manner and willingness that got the truckers hot and bothered.

If she'd have been shy, I doubt she would have had many suitors.

In other words, if Flo had acted like Vera, she wouldn't be...well, FLO!!!!!

Which is why for me Vera was the more attractive character! There's something about the shy quiet ones!

If you click on this website, you can see a photo of Polly during the Alice days in her street clothes and real hair. No wonder she once was quoted as saying she was rarely recognized out in public back then!! (Same goes for Three's Company's Audra Lindley (Mrs. Roper)).

^ Quite a difference. Her personality was miles from Flo's, too, if I remember. She was very quiet and chose her words quite carefully, and obviously very intelligent.

Physically I never found her attractive.I do agree that it was her manner and persona, and the fact that she clearly loved men that attracted the truckers. And I have to give Polly Holliday credit for playing the part outstanding. The fact that she was not really attractive also made the character she played even funnier. Some of best episodes of Alice(a great show!) were the ones with Polly playing Flo.When she left the show it went downhill quite a bit.

She was good with the men b/c she was EASY.

I've heard most people say Belle was the ONLY really attractive waitress of the bunch. Jolene was more my style, lol

Polly Holliday and M. Emmett Walsh were a riot as Jill's parents on Home Improvement. I wish they could've made more appearances!

She's got a fun, flirty personality but I don't think she's sexy. But, who knows? Maybe compared to all the other women who live in that town she was the sexy one? The other women could have been really homely and out of shape.

Here's what Polly Holliday looked like out of character during her stint on Alice. No wonder she was rarely recognized by fans on the street!!

She looks like Karen Grassle from 'Little House on the Prairie'.
