This might sound a bit morbid but...
In some of the missing person's cases, where it's likely or obvious the person was alive at least a year or two after being abducted (for example Antonette Cayedito) is it possible that the airing of their story on UM got them killed? In Cayedito's case to use it as an examle, once UM (which was pretty popular I would imagine back in the 80s and 90s) aired the episode on her, her captors might have thought keeping her alive wasn't worth the heat now being on them nationally. I know that's morbid, and I know UM has done good to get further attention to many sad cases, but there is always a downside to things.... |

That would always be a possibility.
But a person that abducts another person (especially one that isn't an infant) would most likely have formed an intent to harm that person regardless of outside pressures. And given that keeping people (alive) for extended periods is rare for abductors, it really can't be a consideration when you are seeking information. I hate to sound cold, but that's the way things have to go,IMHO. |

This can't be blamed on UM since this didn't happen while the show was on the air, but I do feel that when the photo of the girl who looked like Amy Bradley was found on the escorts website, they did a potentially dangerous thing by giving it so much coverage on shows like Dr. Phil.
If the girl really was Amy and her handlers found out the photo was getting so much media attention, they could have decided to dispose of her. Hell, even if she WASN'T Amy, the girl in the photo could have been put in danger if her handlers wanted to avoid having media and LE snooping around them and decided she was a liability. I can understand putting the Tara Calico photo on TV since it was found in a parking lot and there were no other viable leads to go on. But this photo was found on an actual website and I really hope they covered all their bases and at least launched an investigation into the site before they put the photo on TV. |

Its possible Tara Calico could have been killed by her captors after the segment aired. Especially if that picture WAS her. But she could still be alive............
Keep in mind Jaycee Dugard was found alive. Her episode on America's Most Wanted aired after she was abducted. Nearly 20 years later she was found. Her abductor kept her. Elizabeth Smart is another one. Her abduction got national reviews. They even had the names of the suspects. She was found alive. |
