Exclamation DS kids...FOL Girls

Does anyone think it's weird that all the Diff'rent Strokes kids have gotten themselves into trouble with the law. None of the FOL girls ever got in trouble with the law.

I don't think so. Honestly I think it's great that they were able to lead normal lives even though they were stars at young ages and thank God that they did!

Take care,
Tanya.

Well, Lisa Whelchel has always been "holy" and the rest of the FOL cast just wouldn't do things like that. By the way they are, I don't see Mindy Cohn holding up any drug stores in the future LOL

It's crossed my mind before. It probably has something to do with parental influence...the FOL girls come from families with strong moral beliefs- I don't know about the DS kids. It just seems to me that the DS kids parents' did not get involved in their lives very much (it's like they weren't "protected" from Hollywood).

Ditto. FOL and DS fan 4ever, I couldn't help noticing you are a Little Rascals fan. I love your avatar. I don't know if you know, but on AMC they have a show called "Little Rascals 2.0" it's hosted by Frankie Muniz, but they show the mini films of the Little Rascals. I try and catch it when I can. That movie they made in the 90's sucked though. Have you seen the show I'm talking about or the movie they made in 1994 or something like that?

I think it had to do with age. "The Facts of Life" girls grew up longer on the set, and had the influence on their growing up for two years. The "Diff'rent Strokes" cast was also younger when the show went off then the FOL cast was in 1988. Lisa Whelchel, Nancy McKeon, and others had a firm hold on life. Gary Colemen, Dana Plato, and Todd Bridges didn't have a firm hold on life when their show went off, esp Dana Plato since she left two years before the show left the air, and had a baby before the show had ended.

Hi Jenny, I almost missed your message....luckily this thread was bumped back to the top of the page.

Anyhow, yes- I've seen it, and I agree with you 100%- it sucked! Honestly I think it's dumb that they attempted to remake a classic series of films like that and turn it into a movie. But of course they try to remake everything these days.

Yep- I've seen AMC's airings of the Our Gang comedies- it's pretty cool. You know, Cabin Fever entertainment made a bunch of volumes on VHS of the original films a few years ago. I have a few copies. But alas, from what I've heard- they no longer have them on the market anymore. If you're a big fan like me, you probably also know that the Our Gang films originally started in 1922 as silent films. Among my VHS collection of the films, I actually have a few of the silent films.

I didn't know that Our Gang started out in silent films. I'm not sure if you watch Leave it to Beaver, or the marathon they just had on tvland, but I heard that Tony Dow's mother was on the Our Gang series. I can't remember her name, but I thought that was cool.

Don't even get me started on them remaking movies out of old sitcoms. When I saw what they did to Leave it to Beaver, it made me want to cry. The originals will always be the best, and I don't think anybody can top the originals.

Yep Jenny, I used to watch reruns of Leave it to Beaver a few years ago. I was kind of hooked at the time. I still like it, but I haven't been keeping up with it lately.

Whoa- that's so awesome that Tony Dow's mother was in the original Our Gang series....hmmm since you don't know which Little Rascal she was, maybe I can look her up. I have the book written by Leonard Maltin and Richard Bann, titled "The Little Rascals: The Life and Times of Our Gang."

When you refer to the remake of Leave it to Beaver- do you mean The New Leave it to Beaver? I used to watch that....it was OK since at least the original actors appeared in it. But of course it didn't compare to the original series. I didn't hear anything about a movie remake.........

Anyway, if I find any more info on Tony Dow's mom, I'll let you know.

I've never seen the New Leave it to Beaver series or the Still the Beaver movie. The remake I was talking about was made in 1997, or 1998. The only good thing about the movie was it had cameos of some of the people from the Beaver series. Here's who was in it.

Cast overview, first billed only:
Christopher McDonald .... Ward Cleaver
Janine Turner .... June Cleaver
Cameron Finley .... Theodore 'Beaver/Beav' Cleaver
Erik von Detten .... Wallace 'Wally' Cleaver
Adam Zolotin .... Eddie Haskell Jr.
Alan Rachins .... Fred Rutherford
Geoffrey Pierson .... Coach Gordon
Grace Phillips .... Miss Landers (The School Teacher)
Barbara Billingsley .... Aunt Martha Cleaver
Ken Osmond .... Eddie Haskell Sr.
Frank Bank .... Frank
Erika Christensen .... Karen
E.J. De La Pena .... Larry Mondello
Justin Restivo .... Lumpy Rutherford
Louis Martin Braga III .... Gilbert Bates
(more)

Thanks for looking up the info about Tony Dow's mother for me!

Hi Jenny....I haven't had much luck in finding a significant amount of info on Tony Dow's mother....but I know where you heard she was in the original Our Gang series: You saw that at the TV Land site! Here's the link:

http://www.tvland.com/shows/litbeaver/actor3.jhtml

You are probaby wondering why I posted that link if you've already seen it before. Well, I couldn't help it...Wally looked cute in the photo!

OK, seriously though...you'll be disappointed to know that it's difficult, almost impossible to find any info on Muriel Montrose on the net or even in the book about Our Gang. Our Gang ran from 1922 till about 1944 (I think) and there were way too many cast members over the years to list them all in the book. I am guessing that she (Muriel) wasn't a regular since there's no profile on her in the book. Other than the small quantity of info about her that's mentioned in Tony Dow's profile, I found this link:

http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?id=53485

Based on that, I assume that she was an already an adult when she appeared in Our Gang. I also assume that she appeared in one of the silent films....the first Our Gang talkie debuted in 1929, and based on that link I posted she began her performances before that year. Well, I'm just taking a wild guess. Maybe I can go though the listing of each and every ep of Our Gang to see if her name is listed somewhere as part of the cast members. Well, that will take some time.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help

P.S.....Thanks for sharing that info about the remake of Leave it to Beaver. I probably would have choked if I had seen it.

Thank you so much for looking. You really helped me out though because I couldn't even remember her name! I didn't know that the information was at tvland.com. I heard it at the end of one of the episodes on the fandemonium marathon.

Thanks for that link with Tony's picture. He does look hot in that pic

Thanks again! *hugs*
