Question Just what are they saying at beginning?

Shameil, Shamasal...whatever incorporated

What's it mean anyway? I've wondered this for 25 years.

I'm afraid LentzMatt is a little off.

It's...

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Shlamiel. Shlamozzle. Hassenfeiffer Incorporated."

There's an "L" in there. I don't wanna sound like a know-it-all. But.. ya know.

(I'm afraid I murdered the spelling, anyway.)

I'm afraid it doesn't mean much of anything, really.

It's just a little childhood rhyme that Penny and Garry Marshall knew.

Kind of like "Ring Around the Rosy."

I've never heard it so it must be a Bronx thing.

They shot it one night after a quick pilot after a Happy Days shoot and everyone was tired. They needed a catchy opening very quick. So Penny taught it to Cindy, thus the famous opening was born.

There's no need to be rude. I said I didn't wanna sound like a knpw-it-all, but when it comes to L&S... I'm a perfectionist. Sorry.

Yeah!! Haha!!

It's spelled...

[Schlemiel Schlimazel ...]

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
Schlemiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer, incorporated.

We're gonna do it!

Give us any chance we'll take it,

Read us any rule, we'll break it.

We're gonna make our dreams come true.

Doin' it our way!

Nothing's gonna turn us back now,

Straight ahead and on the track now.

We're gonna make our dreams come true,

Doin' it our way!

There's nothing we won't try,

Never heard the word "impossible."

This time there's no stopping us,

We're gonna do it!

On your mark, get set, and go now,

Gotta dream and we just know now.

We're gonna make that dream come true.

And we'll do it our way, yes, our way,

Make all our dreams come true.

And we'll do it our way, yes, our way,

Make all our dreams come true

For me and you.

I looked up "schlemiel" & "schlemazzle" (sp?) but could only find schlemiel, which means "an ineffectual, bungling person who habitually fails or is easily victimized"... still doesn't make too much sense.

I don't know but it sounds a bit Yiddish to me.

A schlemiel is a poor, bungling person, like Lone_Wolfette said. A schlemazel is the victim of something a schlemiel does. Such as, if the schlemiel were to spill his soup, the schlemazel would be the one he spilled the soup on. Hassenpfeffer is German for rabbit.
