Question Was "The Skipper's" Name Ever Revealed As Jonas Grumby?

...Or was it never actually mentioned on the show?

On the first episode, they also mentioned that the professor is Roy Hinkley.

The radio announcer names the missing people (except for Gilligan) on the SS Minnow.

Watch the first episode. Between 2:37 and 2:40, the radio says this: "His skipper, Jonas Grumby, is an old salt in these parts."

Yo're wrong: I watched the DVD before, and between 2:34 and 2:36, the announcer says: "The crew consisted of a young first mate named Gilligan."

i've always wondered what the "FREE LUNCHES" consisted of - I imagine Gilligan would've been the one serving it, so it would have undoubtedly gone wrong anyways...

Bob Denver claimed that he and Sherwood Schwartz decided that if Gilligan ever needed a first name it would be "Willie."

You know, in all the years I've been watching GI I never thought of that-lol I've seen it on the credits, but never thought about what free lunches were.

I'd go with sandwiches and a bag of chips or something like that. The boat wasn't big enough to have a kitchen so it couldn't have been much more than that.

It is definitely said in Two On A Raft when the radio announcer goes over all the names and where they were from. It may have been said in Birds Gotta Fly, Fish Gotta Talk. It was ALMOST said in Court Martial but Gilligan shut the radio off mid-sentence.

I think he meant they didn't say his first name.

I can answer this.

It's on the first episode Two on a Raft.

2:48 on BW DVD. 2:32 on colorized.

I know it because I can't hear well.

It's actually a blessing.

To enjoy Gilligan, I put on my own subtitles.

Now I have it written out for all to see.

When I responded to another post, I guessed the free lunch was Black Forest ham sandwiches with mustard, a generous helping of potato salad, and a can of pop . Maybe a bag of potato chips as well .

Don't knock that free lunch . A lot of people have wondered why Mr . Howell -- who's used to traveling first class -- took a "three hour tour" on Captain Grumby's "tiny ship" . The reason had to be because Mr . Howell CAN'T resist a free lunch !

Finally, as far as I can remember -- which depends on a lot of semi -- forgotten memories -- the name "Jonas Grumby" was mentioned in AN EPISODE . Obviously, I might be wrong about that .

I like that about not turning down a free lunch

- i was also thinking whether the "FREE LUNCH" meant that they might have either a gas or propane fridge/cooler and/or stove, or even just an insulated cooler box, any of which might be important items to have while stranded on the island

it always seemed to me like the writers didn't really consider much of anything that could possibly have been salvaged from the boat (other than the radio and fish netting) and used on the island.
